In an announcement made today, FlyingIron Simulations announced that they have signed an agreement with Eagle Dynamics to bring the A-7E Corsair II to DCS World. The announcement included work in progress screenshots and a few details on their plans.
A new cold war attack aircraft
FlyingIron Simulations has previously created detailed modules of the Spitfire IX, P-47N, and Grob 109B for X-Plane 11. Now the developer is working on a DCS World module of the A-7 Corsair II. The E model in the announcement is the definitive version seeing use from the end of the Vietnam War through to Desert Storm before its retirement from various airforces began in 1991 until 2014 when the Hellenic Air Force retired the last of theirs.
A-7E’s can carry some interesting combinations of ordinance including HARM, Shrike, Maverick and Walleye guided munitions as well as iron bombs, rockets, and AIM-9 Sidewinders for defense. It also has a very familiar M61 Vulcan cannon.
We’ve seen both exterior and interior shots done by their art team showing high details in both their cockpit and external modeling.
This is just an announcement and it likely means that many long months or more will be required to bring this module to an early access state.
