Eurofighter Typhoon module for DCS World? It’s happening!

In early February, what feels like a lifetime ago, Eagle Dynamics teased that they had a milestone aircraft that they were working on. They had intended to tease it during their 2020 cinematic video but it just wasn’t far enough along to do so. Now it looks like we know what they were teasing… a DCS World module of the Eurofighter Typhoon!

Story still developing

A bunch of screenshots has appeared this morning in the Eagle Dynamics work in progress screenshot collection. They show off the Hind, which we saw earlier this week, and now they are showing off the Eurofighter Typhoon.

With the branding on the top we can only assume that this is being done internally by Eagle Dynamics as opposed to it being part of a third party effort – but we don’t have any confirmation yet. BigNewy was on r/Hoggit this morning telling members there that the DCS World Weekend News update would fill in a lot of blanks.

Just in-case we were uncertain if this was a nice high fidelity AI module or if this was going to be a flyable type, there are also screenshots showing various parts of the cockpit. It’s going to be a flyable!

Which variant?

The Typhoon has been produced in a three major versions, called tranches, along with several block upgrades. It’s likely that the Typhoon that Eagle Dynamics is building will be an earlier model roughly around the timeline of the DCS: F-16C (2007) and the DCS: F/A-18C (2006) which means that this could be a Tranche 1 (and hopefully a Block 5 which has air to air and air to ground modes) or an earlier Tranche 2. I’m guessing its unlikely that we’d see something more advanced like the Tranche 2, Block 10 or Block 15 with Meteor, Stormshadow and Brimstone.

We’ll find out soon enough hopefully!

    Wow!

    I suspect Tranche 1, Block 5 (SRP 4.3) as this was the RAF ‘austere’ A2G mod subsequently rolled out for the other users.

    Tranche 2 would be amazing, but far less likely given the general trend of the DCS series with regard to the dating of modern aircraft.

        A total beast. Even with the MScan, it should dominate in radar power and guidance while in T/W terms it has few equals. All models had HMD and HOBS. It should crucify the opposition.

        Will make the 150 Octane / 109k BoX debates look like a mild disagreement.

        I have heard that it’s a fighter pilots dream to fly so this should be something very interesting to check out!

        This is also the first truly modern European jet fighter being added in. So it should make quite a splash!

    The pilots I know that have flown it said it was unreal. Only thing they really feared (Red Flag) was F-22s. Not that it is invincible, but it is a damn fine aircraft (and would have been a sensible choice for Canada, capability-wise).

    Instead of blowing your load early with an unsourced article, had you waited 1 hour, you’d have seen this is a new module from a new dev, and NOT ED’s module. I repeat: THIS IS NOT ED, NOR IS IT THE SECRET MODULE!

      that’s actually good news! I look forward to this aircraft for all the obvious reasons, but it’s not the one I would’ve hoped for.

        I do Not see how the lock-down could affect people’s manner negatively. If anything it gives us more time to play sims!
