April Fools round-ups

Today is April Fools, the day of pranking and coming up with funny or silly announcements. Some are intended to be very believable while others are just outright funny. Some love it, some hate it, but either way you should never trust any product announcements that happen on a day like today. There have been some pretty good April Fools related material going around the community and so I thought I’d round up some of them for you.

From “new” joysticks to playable games

Let me start off by saying that I know some don’t particularly love April Fools and in sympathy to that, by mid-day I’m pretty tired of the whole thing, but I can appreciate the effort that goes into some of the higher quality gags that go out there. These are the ones that made me laugh (and we could all use a good laugh right about now).

Let’s start off with Thrustmaster’s TM Classic Wright Brother’s Flyer-1 Add-On Grip. It’s obviously a prank but I appreciate the attention to marketing detail for this one. It sounds like a new Thrustmaster announcement!

Chuck’s Guides put together a whole bunch of “new guides” for today’s pranking.

The rest (and there are quite a few) are available to read on Reddit. See below!

On r/Hoggit, u/Uldryth posted his F-16 Fouche premium cockpit interior with mahogany and ivory. Something you never knew you needed in your F-16.

Eagle Dynamics usually likes to do something funny for April Fools. This time they added a slot machine in the F-16 and F/A-18 whereby pulling the landing gear down lever you get a slot machine appearing on the MFD and you get various chances to lower your flaps, lower your gear, shut down the engines, or eject. The gag seems to be over because I just tried and it isn’t happening anymore.

X-Plane aircraft makers FlyJSim decided to hype a new aircraft- a remote controlled 373. It looks cute and hilarious and it actually looks like they made it enough to work in X-Plane which would be a fun little gag to hold on to.

Finally, the folks at Gaijin seem to be the ones who take April Fools the most seriously of anyone in the wider community by building entire game modes and letting people play them. Last year it was UFO themed but this year they went a step further and turned War Thunder… into Space Thunder. Apparently you can play this right now (for a limited time).

Did you see one that I missed?

There’s probably more out there that I missed. Did you see one that you liked? Let me know in the comments.

Albeit I have grown quite tired of April’s fool pranks myself, those were actually pretty funny and harmless. We sure need to lighten up the mood and tension these days. Loved the wooden stick and the slot machine lever… ED showed some real dedication delivering that one!

I have seen a post by Deka Ironwork Simulations on their FB page, joking about making a DCS: C919 module
