Radeon cards and the latest IL-2 patch

If you have an AMD Radeon card you may be seeing some visual artifacts as a result of the new rendering changes for IL-2: Great Battles patch 4.006. The developers have created a thread on the official forums that you may find useful to try and mitigate some of the graphics problems and report your own configuration.

Graphics problems

The PC platform is one that is very extendable but it does make it a challenge for developers often dealing with thousands of possible hardware configurations. A smaller developer like 1CGS has access to just a fraction of those test configurations and according to the developers its even worse right now as their testing rigs are all in the office and everyone is working from home.

It seems that several of the AMD Radeon cards have some issues with the new deferred rendering system. What does that mean? Well you you may end up with a visual problem like this one…

What can be done?

1CGS is appealing for your help if you have one of the affected Radeon cards and then again even if you don’t have one. Here’s how you can help them out. Go to the thread linked here and report on the following:

1. Your videocard model.

2. Your driver version.

3. Have you artefacts like on attached screenshots or not (answer “No, I haven’t these glitches” – is very important to know too!).

4. Does FXAA to MSAA swithcing solving this issue for you completely?

5. Does driver settings reset to Factory settings with choosing default GAME profile after that helps?

6. If you’re using some kind of graphics mods (migoto, re-shade or something) does turning them off helps you?

Hopefully together with the community and support that AMD is providing to 1CGS that a resolution to these issues will be swift.

As far as I can remember, ATI (now acquired by AMD) often had more troubles with their drivers and GPUs. That, or nVidia had the necessary pull to get games working better with their drivers and devices.

On the other hand, I think nVidia has usually been more expensive.
