A passion of the flight sim community is creating video and putting together some spectacular visuals in cinematic fashion. This is a round-up, something I haven’t had a chance to do in a while, of cinematic videos I’ve come across recently.
Let’s start with NassaultFilm’s excellent Night Raid! which blends real RAF radio recordings and RAF Boston video footage with IL-2: Great Battles gameplay. Some film grain and moody colour grading help sell the whole package. Excellent job here!
Ernest’s In the End is setup as a trailer showing off parts of the entire IL-2: Great Battles Series. Good cinematic qualities and a wide array of sequences blend together nicely.
FlyingBagpipe’s Through Fire draws inspiration from prolific DCS World cinematographer Glowing Amraam and does a great job of it too. A great combination of different sequences is, similar to the trailer above, a celebration of all things DCS.
Next, we have Run by Max Pettersson which has some great moments featuring the Ka-50 conducting some very close quarters missions.
Finally, Wings of Sollum by VO101Tom is a cinematic set in the skies over North Africa in the as of yet unreleased Team Fusion Desert Wings – Tobruk release for IL-2: Cliffs of Dover. Some good ship, air, and ground combat all mixed in.
Give them a thumbs up!
I hope you enjoyed some of these cinematic works by members of the community. Having created many myself, I know how time and labour intensive these can be to put together. What you see as finished product is just the tip of the iceberg of effort. So, if you get a chance be sure to give each of them a thumbs up and some words of encouragement on their YouTube channels. I know how much it can be appreciated!
