DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer has arrived

Yesterday we had the launch trailer and today it’s time for DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer to shine in the Eagle Dynamics store and on Steam. Here are the details on an upgrade to a venerable and well regarded module for DCS World.

Warthog becomes Tank Killer

The A-10 needs little introduction around here and nor does DCS World’s now long in the tooth original DCS: A-10C Warthog model that became a foundation around which DCS World was built. Now we have an upgrade to what many consider Eagle Dynamics best and most complete module with new features that bring it up to a more recent standard employed by the real A-10C fleet.

The new module is available today in the DCS World Store and on Steam. If you previously owned the DCS: A-10C module, the upgrade price for you is $9.99 USD and that applies on both Steam and on the Eagle Dynamics store. If you don’t own the module, the full regular price is $79.99 USD.

Here are the key features from the store page:

  • A-10C II adds new weapons that include the Advanced Precision Kill Weapons System (APKWS), AGM-65L laser-Maverick, and GBU-54 laser-guided JDAM.

    $112 Cdn. I hope it comes with a case of beer for that price.

    Do you have/can you get any details on what “game mode” means exactly?

      DCS World has a game mode which simplified things so people can very started with lower difficulty levels. I’ve never used it. I assume that’s what you’re talking about?

      It’s explained in the DCS World manual available for download on the ED site.
      Makes the experience arcade-like.

    As usual, I don’t know what I’m talking about. I just saw a “game mode” option listed with the A-10C II, and I don’t know exactly what it does.

    I was wondering if it means instead of pushing 15 buttons to fire a rocket you only have to push 2.

      Probably? It sounds rather simplistic and likely not well supported. I’ve never used it and as much as it is exists within DCS, Eagle Dynamics also never really mentions it either except as a bullet point on rare occcasion.

    If it’s laid out the same as Black Shark, that’s exactly what it does. Press “T” to lock a target, etc. Unless they’ve changed it, it’s been a while since I used it!

    On Steam you can get the old A-10C for $85 and the upgrade for $15, but the A-10C II is $112.

    The end result is the same, no? Just one is $12 cheaper.

      Yes, we’re in the sweet spot right now where you can get both legacy and new versions for less money than the “go-forward pricing” of the new stand alone module. I believe its like that for a couple of weeks, so now is the time if interested. I already had the older A-10C, so it was less than $10 for me (absolute no brainer). They are two different modules, not one replacing the other.

      I’m really impressed with the new module (old one is great as well).

    My start with DCS began with the purchase of the A-10C and FC3, FC3 because people say its a good starting point… Waste of money (if you ask me), only use de F15C and MiG-29 to blast till bingo full. I think is more for people that want instant action.

    I Really love the complexity, the hotas integration (helps if you have the TM warthog), the massive weapons choices and of course the GUN. Also the A-10C has been a reasonable bug free experience for me, helping the learning process a lot.

    I’m liking that ED has done the $9,99 dollar upgrade for current virtual A-10C fan boys. For people that find the modules to expensive, just wait on a sale. But most likely the A10C II wont be on full sale(50% off) for at least a year.

    @Canadaone, i believe ED sad that you could only purchase the new a-10C after release, maybe that isn’t yet correct on the stores/shops?

      There seems to be a transition period right now that see’s both modules in the store. I suspect that we’ll see the original eventually disappear and only the new version will be available.

      Yeah it does and yeah it’s fairly new. The module update was done with the USAF ANG so whatever they came up with… I’m assuming it was all approved.

    For $10, it’s an absolute no-brainer. Scorpion is far more sophisticated than any of the other HMS’ in DCS, and combined with the updated flight model (finally!), new weps and new 3D/Graphics, it’s an outstanding upgrade that makes Warthog relevant once again.

    I had stopped flying it once Hornet got it’s TGP and never really missed it. Warthog became relegated to being my “IFR Trainer”. Now i’m actually excited to jump back in and re-train/train – as much as I love zooming about in Hornet A2A, modern ground attack in DCS is tons of fun.the

    I do wonder how sales will go at the new $80 price, which places it at the same cost as the true multi-role aircraft. That price means I’d never recommend it to a new player, particularly in re Hornet. Just far more bang for the buck there.

    $80 makes it like Tomcat – an enthusiast’s module. But Warthog, though famous and desirable, simply doesn’t have the sex appeal of Tomcat that’s undoubtedly drives many of the sales. In terms of value for the Every Man, they’re second rank.
