It’s the first 1CGS IL-2 Great Battles Series update of 2021 and it comes bearing some great new screenshots and a few new details on what they are busy doing behind the scenes right now. Most prominent are the screenshots of the Typhoon Mark IB and of the 72-K 25mm gun from the GAZ-MM Collector Vehicle for Tank Crew. Let’s have a look a the latest!
UPDATE: January 23rd – the update omitted the news of the Normandy map, it has been added.
Tiffy in-engine!
The Hawker Typhoon Mark IB, also frequently called the Tiffy by its pilots, is now a fully textured and in-engine realized aircraft now. That’s really exciting news and it comes with some great new screenshots to show off what the aircraft is looking like right now.
The update also mentions that while the exterior is done, the interior still needs work and so does the flight model. They expect to finish everything before the end of Spring (which could be as late as June but we’ll have to see).
Check out these amazing screenshots!
The Typhoon is the predecessor of the Tempest Mark V (which started life as a Typhoon Mark II). Despite the similarities, the two aircraft diverge a fair bit on performance. Both are driven by the Sabre IIA 2,000hp engine but the Typhoon’s thicker wing saw the aircraft have a lower roll rate, slower top speed, and tail-plane issues resulted in the tail of the aircraft resulting in a lower allowable dive speed. This version of the Typhoon appears to have the revised tail so that may be less of an issue.
Nonetheless, the type will have character all to its own and it was heavily used as a fighter-bomber with emphasis on the attack role so it is, in a way, the British IL-2. It will be interesting to fly and a real joy for me as I’ve been waiting for many years to fly one again.
Normandy map progress
The developer update also mentions news that the dev team has already completed the layout of the towns on the continental side of the map. Many landmarks and AI controlled vehicles are also apparently already done. Exciting to say the least.
No images are yet available but the Normandy map should be interesting to see in action.
AAA trucks make progress
Now that Tank Crew is becoming popular, the AAA trucks are starting to become more appealing as armored attacks in multiplayer are often thwarted by air power. Now, mobile AAA controlled by human players will throw a wildcard into the mix and that’s where these new vehicles are going to become very interesting to experience.
This week we got several work in progress shots of the GAZ-MM’s turret mounted 72-K. 1CGS reports that they were able to secure documentation on this 25mm anti-aircraft gun’s firing tables. Ballistics and armor penetration values will be as accurate as possible as a result.
Here are two of the many work in progress images of the 3D model being created by Digital Forms. 1CGS anticipates that the GAZ-MM will be ready first just ahead of its German counterpart.
