This DCS World Weekend News has a summary on some of the latest work being done for DCS World 2.7 as well as coming with a new trailer that shows a greatly enhanced graphical feature for the series’ aircraft that are driven by propeller. There’s also a summary of work done on the Hornet and some new physics calculations for the AGM-88 HARM. Let’s have a look!
New propeller effects
Although not a bad looking effect by any stretch of the imagination, DCS World is pushing their visuals just a little further by refining the visual effects that are used on their propeller driven aircraft. According to Eagle Dynamics, the new update will let them calculate the position of each propeller blade leading to a visual effect that more carefully corresponds to pitch angle, RPM and blade type.
A notable update coming to 2.7 is our unique and new technology that calculates the exact location of every propeller blade. This offers the possibility to draw a very accurate representation of the spinning propeller dependent on the type of prop, the number of blades, specific RPM and prop pitch.
DCS World Weekend News update
The update comes with new screenshots showing off the effect.
But images are only so good and you really need to see it in action…. so we’ve got a fancy trailer to go with it too!
Summary of Hornet and HARM updates
Here on Stormbirds I’ve covered most of the play-by-play of updates coming from Eagle Dynamics so most of you already know about the ATFLIR, new HARM modes, new radar modes, and so forth.
The DCS World Weekend has a good refresher if you’ve missed some of the latest updates. Suffice to say, the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet is nearing released status with a few loose ends to tidy up post release.

This week’s update also goes into depth and detail on updates to the AGM-88 HARM. In addition to the new Pre-Briefed modes on the Hornet and Viper, the missile is also undergoing some serious work with improvements to the type’s autopilot and overall modeling that have been incorporated into the sim.
There’s a fair bit of programming and math terminology thrown around in the update so if you find that kind of thing interesting you should definitely check it out. Either way, the result is that we’re seeing some refinements to a key weapon system that should give us an even more accurate AGM-88 HARM missile. Can’t argue with that.
