Flight sim news round-up for Sunday Nov 14, 2021

As with many weeks, there’s a lot of activity going on all around our community. Those articles that I haven’t had a chance to write about individually are all presented here in my news round-up for Sunday, November 14, 2021. Check it out!

VPC releases SharKa-50 control panel

VPC have increased their number of available control panels with their new SharKa-50. Patterned on some of the controls in the Ka-50 helicopter, this control panel looks like it could easily be used for other aircraft too. It has a ton of available buttons, switches, and of course some nice axis controls.

Puddles? Puddles!

It’s not a big in-depth update but the folks at Laminar Research continue to show off their work with X-Plane 12. In this update we get to see how their shader system is handling puddles on the tarmac.

CRJ 900/1000 releases for MSFS

It all happened rather suddenly as Aerosoft took the wrapper off their follow-up CRJ product release. The 550 and 700 models that have been available for a considerable time are joined now by the lengthened 900 and 1000 model. You can buy them in a complete package or in two individual packs.

JustFlight dev updates

Two products are underway through JustFlight with DC Designs Concord now part of their regular development updates. DC Design’s product releases have, so far, been a little chequered and it’s a bit unclear how detailed this Concorde will actually be. But on the other hand its a Concorde and flying a supersonic airliner has its advantages. Check out development on the JustFlight website.

Coming directly from JustFlight’s development team is the BAe 146 “Professional.” This looks to be based on the X-Plane 11 version that was released earlier this year but with ample development time to take advantage of MSFS’ newer engine. It looks superb and the modeling of systems will hopefully put it in one of the higher tiers of aircraft development.

Chuck’s Guides for the Mosquito

If you’ve been waiting for a Chuck’s Guide on the DCS: Mosquito, your wait is at an end. Released earlier this week, his DCS: Mosquito guide includes in-depth segments on the aircraft’s operation including how to navigate and fly it at night.

I think XP12 will prove to be considerably better than conventional wisdom has it. All the “First Principles” work that LR is putting in will pay off.

A fine point: the X-Plane version of the BAe 146 was sub-contracted to Thranda (and they did a damn fine job!). The Just Flight in-house team handled the P3D version and are handling the MSFS version now, too. 🙂

It’d be great if X-Plane 12 really hits it out of the park when it arrives. Especially when we have so many top end aircraft arriving.
