Eagle Dynamics briefly details future DCS: F/A-18C Hornet plans

While a lot of emphasis in the fast jet department at Eagle Dynamics is focused on the DCS: F-16C Viper project, we have learned that Eagle Dynamics still has people working on the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet and thanks to an update from last weekend (that I missed), we now know what the roadmap ahead looks like.

Moving out of early access

The DCS: F/A-18C Hornet is technically still in early access. This is where the module has been since its release in 2018. With most major and even most minor systems now in place, there is still a list of features that Eagle Dynamics intends to add to the module before it is considered complete.

One of them, Automatic Carrier Landing System (ACLS), is currently in progress and will be added soon. It sounds like ACLS may be the last or one of the last features to be added before the module moves out of early access. After that, there is still more to come and Eagle Dynamics have provided us with a post-early access development list:

  • MSI tuning and some functions
  • Radar tuning
  • Flight model and FCS tuning
  • ATFLIR tuning including offset logic
  • HARM tuning
  • Flight Director Mode
  • Static MUMI Page
  • GBU-24 auto-pilot
  • TALD

Of course, even the A-10C which is considered to be one of DCS World’s most complete modules still sees occasional updates and last year was upgraded to the A-10C II with some newer features so it stands to reason that even the features listed above may not quite be the end for development on the Hornet.

As one of DCS World’s most popular modules, it seems likely that development will continue for some time to come and I tend to see that as a positive for long time fans of the Hornet.
