Sometimes it feels like nothing is happening and then suddenly the dam breaks and we get flooded with news. The DCS: F-16C Viper is picking up yet another feature in the near future – electronic countermeasures. Let’s have a look.
Three pods coming to the DCS: F-16C
With stated plans to improved the overall modeling of ECM in DCS World, it is against this backdrop that we learn some details about the three ECM pods slated to come to the DCS: F-16C. The three jammers are the ALQ-184 short pod, ALQ-184 long pod and ALQ-131 pod are all planned to be implemented soon. Future videos will cover the differences in operation between the pods. The short version of the pod has 2-band capabilities while the long version has 3-band.
The ECM jammer is effective at ranges between 25nm after which the jamming effect becomes less apparent. In the video, Matt Wagner demonstrates how an active jammer is able to defeat a radar lock.
