DCS: AH-64D Apache Longbow goes “gold”

Back when games still primarily arrived on physical discs, we used to hear word that a game had gone “gold” and that the code was final and being sent to the replication houses to have the boxes and discs printed and shipped out. The digital equivalent of that has just come to pass for the DCS: AH-64D Apache Longbow. The wait is nearly over!

Ready for release

In a post made a few hours ago, Matt Wagner from Eagle Dynamics, has released a statement saying that the team had finalized the code and that the product has officially gone “gold.”

Although it does not have the same meaning it did before the advent of digital media, today, DCS: AH-64D went “gold”. Meaning, that the code is locked and will not be touched unless we discover a crash or error that severely impacts gameplay. We are in the final phase!

Just as a reminder, once the DCS: AH-64D is released into Early Access, the 30% pre-order price will end and move to 20% for the duration the module is in Early Access.

Matt Wagner

Different from the days of physical media is the intended continued testing of the product which Matt implies is still happening. Still, this news is good that the initial early access release is ready and that the AH-64D is heading to DCS World very soon.

The pre-order discount remains in place for now and, as Matt says, will drop to 20% when it goes into early access. Still not a bad discount for the product as it launches. I’d expect a new DCS World open beta patch to come within the next week that will first launch the product. It will likely emerge into the public patch cycle sometime several weeks later.

Night attack preview

Also, in-case you missed it, we also have a preview video coming out from DCS YouTuber Casmo who teamed up with another former Apache pilot to test out the DCS: AH-64D together with Matt in a night mission showcasing the type’s capabilities. Have a look!

Murphy’s Law eh? Hopefully you get a chance to experience the new helicopter before you head out.

I’m sure there will be much content to watch as people get to grips with the new helicopter too.

The eye candy on that thing is sweet. I just wish my brain were bigger so I’d feel like I could manage all those systems.
