It’s been a bit quieter on the IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover and Desert Wings – Tobruk front but a few updates over the last few days have brought us some updates. A recent patch has also brought with it a few fixes to the product. Let’s have a look!
VR and graphics

Over the weekend, Team Fusion Simulations gave us some updates on what they’ve been up to. The team reports that they are still committed to bringing both a significant graphics overhaul to the sim as well as VR. According to the update, posted to their Facebook page, VR beta is coming along well.
There’s also some graphical updates coming along. The implementation of their new volumetric cloud technology appears to making some headway now as well as these are the first looks we’ve seen in a while. The update should help the sim keep up with IL-2 Great Battles, DCS World and other sims all now using the ray marched volumetric cloud technology.

Latest update
A new patch has come along for the project as well. In it there are some updates to aircraft, changes to the volume mixer interaction in Windows, an update to one of the single player missions, and some localization updates. Here’s the changelog:
- Bugfix: Blenheim bomber types were configured to use fighter AI.
- [Oskar]
- Campaign: Mission builders can access state.ini file. [Oskar]
- Bugfix: Wellington gunners freeze defrosted. [MicroWave]
- Reverted Windows Volume Mixer back to original Sound Volume slider to allow the user to independently adjust the radio voice volume. Please be advised that a master volume level lower that maximum (100%) could result in sounds with a lower volume level being rendered inaudible. [ATAG_Slipstream]
- Updated German and Czech localisations (briefings and manuals)
- [Localisation Team]
- Single Mission: “Aftershocks”: Adjusted 4./ZG 76 waypoint to prevent
- AI flight from hitting fuel tanks, which caused severe stuttering on
- some PCs. Revised 1./JG 2 briefing to make clear that this is an AI-only
- flight that spawns several minutes into the mission. [Cybermat47]
