A pair of hardware announcements from VIRPIL coming out in recent days with the announcement of the VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Flightstick Base and VPC Constellation ALPHA Prime Grip. Let’s have a look!

ALPHA Prime

VIRPIL reports in their announcement that their Alpha grip has been a very popular product for them over the years. Its design has aimed at the space sim market as a primary, however, with all of the buttons and adjustments available it is just as useful in the flight sim space. ALPHA Prime is the evolution of that grip.

There are several key enhancements for this product. The first is materials which is made from a lightweight metal with textured surface. RGB lighting has also been enhanced with configurable zones (similar to what we see on other RGB style products) that can be programmed by mode, button press, or theme.

VIRPIL are touting the quality of the build here with the metal material being the key factor but internal design is also a factor according to their announcement.

The VPC Constellation ALPHA Prime comes in both right and left handed versions. It’s selling for $289.95 in the VIRPIL US Webstore and for €269.95 in the VIRPIL EU Webstore.

VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Flightstick Base

A new, third generation, MongoostT-50 Flightstick Base has also just been announced. This new third generation follows the previous two generations with a base that is designed from the start to be used as part of a mounted flight stick with or without an extension.

The series already has metal design, adjustable gimbal and swappable cams and springs, and an axis pretensioner which could be adjusted on the fly. This new version comes with adjustable clutch dampers which can also be adjusted on the fly. Here’s what VIRPIL had to say about their advantages:

These clutch dampers can be used to control the center return behaviour of both the X and Y axis independently. These high quality clutches can be adjusted to apply a light force on the axis allowing you to more easily apply steady and precise control to the flightstick, minimising the risk of unintended deviations. Smoothly lining up a target, or coming in for aerial refuelling has just become easier!
