It’s been a short while since we last had a tutorial and update on new features for the AH-64D. Today we get a new one from Matt Wagner showing off a new target tracking function for the co-pilot/gunner position on the Apache. Let’s have a look!
Track multiple targets
This is a pretty cool new feature. Matt Wagner walks us through the functionality of the new image auto-tracker that can be used to select and track up to three targets at once. In the example, Matt targets and then engages a bunch of moving APCs with the image tracker locking onto and following each APC individually.
It reminds me of some of the cameras that I’ve used recently with subject tracking autofocus. In both cases, the system identifies a selected object and then holds onto it for as long as possible. Check out the tutorial to see it in action. I expect that this function will become available soon!
If I ever manage to buy more brain cells, I will learn this chopper.
Until then…

I hear you. I haven’t yet dug into it.

I did map a few things into Voice Attack, and I’ve managed to use Hellfires from both seats, as well as deal with George a bit, but of course I’ve forgotten most of that. I am a bit envious when I see videos of people flying MP formations and really doing it well. I can see the allure.
I’ll stick to my BS3.

Like you, I still prefer Black Shark. Particularly with the pending Iglas(!).
It’s not so much that it’s complicated (Hornet is much more so), it’s just that dual crew George/Jester/Petrovich isn’t as much fun!
And in all honesty, the ONLY thing that keeps me occasionally coming back to Apache is the Night/Thermal Vision systems.
Other than that, if i’m going to put up with split duties, I’ll take the Hind, please 🙂

Agreed on the night vision goodness. That’s really the only reason I bought it. I wanted that cutting edge tech-toy fun.
