DCS World Spring Sale 23 is on!

The season of the spring sale is in bloom and the latest to announce a sale are the folks at Eagle Dynamics with discount pricing across most of the line-up.

Half off many modules

Starting today, Eagle Dynamics is reporting that offer will last until the March 26th at 23:59 GMT so you have between now and then to decide if there are any new modules that you’d like to pick up in the store.

Many modules, terrains and campaigns are available for 50% off with other modules receiving smaller discounts. The sale comes with its usual flashy trailer to get you hyped for one or more modules.

Check out the DCS World E-Shop or DCS World on Steam to check out the deals.

For a lucky few, DCS: F-15E Strike Eagle pre-order once again had a pricing mix-up and was added to the discount list bringing the price down by quite a bit. This problem was rectified within minutes and the module was briefly pulled from the store listing while Eagle Dynamics solved the problem. It’s back up now with the original pre-order discount in place.

I was looking forward to the MB-339 being on sale but it’s not. I thought maybe the F-15E had sucked all the oxygen out of the room, and the Eagle sale price is about the same price as the 339, so I thought maybe it was sale time. Too bad.

Totally OT, but with the Spring Sale and such, what would people suggest as a high / medium / low new PC option for DCS in 2023? Mine is 2016 vintage and frankly does not run well. Any suggestions from the educated peruses of this excellent site?

If you’re building a new sim rig, I’d go for a high end i5 or i7 from the 12th gen or later. 32GB of RAM minimum (DCS has been known to use more than 32GB), RTX 3060ti or better and a reasonably fast SSD.

Have you tried it recently with the new multi-threading update? A lot of people have seen impressive performance boosts even on older hardware.

My rig crashed handling a very basic flight so it is difficult to tell.

Is there some way of knowing what can / cannot handle multi-threading?

Also, is a 4080 any good? The 40 series gets positive reviews, but has less gb than a 3090.

4080 would do nicely! It doesn’t crash using the non MT exe?

I am one of the lucky few. It’s almost a tradition, I saw the video up in Discord notifications and went straight to shop and check if somebody fucked up the prices again. Saw the MudHen and the tomcat at 39.99 and bought the Hen.

They also botched the tomcat price but for some reason most people just bought the strike eagle.

Lol. You start to wonder whether this is a deliberate sales concept.

No luck with too-low prices on Steam. 😦

The only thing left that kind of interests me is the Viggen, but still not sure I want to drop $40 on it. But I have it up on free trial again starting tomorrow so at least I can fart around with it for a few days and still get it on sale if I want. Good timing. And it does have a great engine sound and fast as stink.

I don’t know, have to check. I took off from Ramat-David in my MB-339 and – twice – it suddenly went screwy.

Whole new rig, mine is just too old. 4080 look like a good compromise cost / capability/ future growth. Thanks for comfirming 👍

I had a close look at the RTX 4080 and they all have 16GB VRAM. That will do very nicely in any sim. The 3080ti I have has 12GB of VRAM and that is great. The new system will chew this stuff up happily – although DCS has been a hog in some instances anyways. The work on MT and other core engine enhancements should smooth this stuff out over time.

All of this MB-339 talk has me wanting to fire it up. Might do that tonight!

Not at all. It’s been a roadmap item for several years now. It, like the multi-threading update, will probably get shown off maybe a month or two before it arrives to open beta. Until then it’s in the vague future.
