This is one of those moments where a bit of a public service announcement is required. DCS fans, no its not you, and yes the DCS servers are currently struggling after the announcement and release of DCS: Sinai along with a new Open Beta update yesterday. Let’s have a look.

Server issues cause authorization error

With DCS forums, Facebook and Reddit groups, and other outlets all expressing concern and questioning why they can’t access modules, DCS World in general, and are seeing authorization errors. The problem also appears to apply to the DCS World webserver which is sometimes unavailable.

A statement released hours ago by Eagle Dynamics mentions the issue.

At the moment it appears that the problems appear to be continuing. I’m sure another statement will be forthcoming when service resumes as normal.

  1. Thanks for the update, Cheers. I just got home and I’m about to test out the new Gazelle Flight Model.

Thank you, I got the map, great. Came out to get Egyptian F-16 skin and the hit the errors. Would have started troubleshooting today, but seeing this, no worries. Communication is a wonderful thing

  3. All this seems like a good excuse for Steam.

Sometimes Steam has its downsides with DCS. Today it has some significant upsides!

      1. One of the downsides is the incredible ease which Steam allows you to delete content. A few months back, I swear it was one quick mistaken click and my entire DCS install was deleted in a heartbeat. 😦

A 400GB download(!) and I had it all back, settings and all. 🙂

I thought the same thing, and I use Steam for a few titles.

But honestly, for DCS world in particular I rather like the idea of all my money going to the developer. Also applies to 1CGS for Il2.

    3. Well, Steam once went one better with me when one day, clicking on DCS just to start the game, instead of been greeted by the green “Start” button, I was given the blue “Install” button. And all that happened without ANY mistaken click! WTF??!!

  5. To think this is just a map release and not a highly anticipated one at that. I can only imagine what it’ll be like on F15 release day.

Hopefully whatever IT issues befell them today will not be repeated.

    2. I can’t find the article anymore, but I remember the time Eve Online imploded because they released a German language pack.

As I recall, they were using file hashes for file ID and reference and it just happened that the German language pack had the same hash as some other unrelated part of the code. It didn’t like that much.

As I recall, they ended up having to redesign some huge part of the architecture to fix it, but they did, because it wasn’t the German language pack that was the problem: it was their underlying architecture has a serious flaw in it.

Great example of weird and unintended consequences. Most folks don’t realize how tenuous the whole computer thing is at times 😄

Main site is still very slow…
I won’t have the chance to purchase/download til this weekend, so hopefully all cleared up by then.
