Since last summer there have been few updates from AviaStorm on their DCS: Tornado project but we are now learning what the team intend to integrate into the Tornado as development continues. Let’s have a look at the list and explore some of the capabilities
On the menu
AviaStorm are intending to build a 1989 Tornado IDS in Luftwaffe service for DCS World. Early shots of the aircraft 3D model and some chatter about what the team intend to integrate onto the jet have lead to an official list of weapons and reconnaissance systems. The image below was released to their Facebook page late in the week.

There’s plenty of familiar weapons on the list including the Mk-80 series bombs and the Mk-20 Rockeye cluster bombs. For air-to-air weaponry the AIM-9 including B, F and L variants are all very familiar too. Same with the AGM-88B HARM which gives the Tornado some SEAD capability.
There were some others that I needed to research a bit. The BL755 is a cluster munition used primarily by the RAF during the Falklands and Gulf Wars and intended for anti-armor operations although it was used in other roles as well.
There’s the Kormoran 1 which some may be more familiar with. This German designed anti-ship missile has its own inertial navigation system with an active radar homing system for the late stages of an anti-ship missile attack. It has a 363 lb warhead and a maximum speed of over Mach 1.
Also on the list is the MW-1 in several different combinations. This is by far the most distinctive of the available pods that the Tornado could carry in this era with 112 tubes each carrying its own submunition. The pods can be configured for anti-runway, anti-armor, and anti-tank mine.

Also of note are the Cerberus III ECM pod and the MBB Recce pod for electronic and aerial reconnaissance respectively.
Looking forward to future updates on this module!
