A couple of DCS World modules are on the front pages of the DCS World Weekend Newsletter today with news that the new Hornet pilot body is complete and various features are now being integrated to make it work. There’s also an update on DCS: Supercarrier. Let’s have a look!
Hornet helmets, body

Eagle Dynamics report that the improved F/A-18C pilot body is now complete. Although the body itself is complete the work is not done as they are now going to merge that with the new helmet and facemask. Then the whole thing can be integrated it into the cockpit.
Two versions of the helmet are on offer with the US Navy JHMCS helmet with a ‘Digital EyePiece Night Vision Cueing Display (NVCD) option.’ The HGU-68P flight helmet with AN/AVS-9(V) NVG night vision goggles also an option. Probably better yet is news that the helmet will have convenient mapping and a texture template so that livery artists can add custom schemes.

It’s been a little while since we’ve had a Supercarrier update in the news but today we have one. Work continues on yellow shirt plane directors and brown shirt plane captains. Sorting out animation and logic that will govern how they help direct your jet around on the carrier deck is what the Eagle Dynamics team are busy doing.
According to the report, aircraft will be handed off to multiple plane directors to reach assigned catapults. Testing in their closed beta team is currently underway. Reportedly this is a lengthy process as there are a large number of ways that the logic could be broken.
This feature is intended to be completed soon.
Also in the newsletter
This week the Newsletter also reminds us about the 15th Anniversary sale with 60% off on a good number of DCS World modules. They also draw attention to the SPQR Dynamic Modern PvP Server using Syria and Caucasus maps. The server notably makes use of the same dynamic campaign engine that Enigma Cold War does but with modern 3rd and 4th gen aircraft and helicopters including the F-16, F/A-18, Ka-50 and AH-64D.
I don’t use the supercarrier to its full potential, but I do like the animations and it’s pretty cool that they’ll get even better.
