The excitement for Heatblur’s next project is definitely high and we’re all waiting patiently for news on the status of the project. While we don’t have much today, I know even this one image is news enough for a lot of you to hang on to so let’s have a look!

First image of the F-4E’s cockpit

We’ve seen quite a few images of the exterior of Heatblur’s F-4E but never the cockpit. Here’s the first look we’ve had and its unsurprisingly at the level of many of their past efforts. The image was released via the Heatblur Discord as a clear teaser of what’s to come.

  1. It’s going to be hard not to buy this plane. I’m not a big F-4 fan but I am a fan of Heatblur and of all cutting edge flightsim tech. This thing looks like it will be a grand slam from Day One as far as eye candy and general deliciousness go. I think it’s going to be so damn pretty it will be irresistible.

I’ve got high expectations but I also think Heatblur will more than hit the mark with this. At “worst” it achieves a similar level to the F-14 which is a work of art.

    2. I really like Heatblur’s modules AND I love the F-4, so I suspect I’ll find the money from somewhere for it. Probably my fund for updating my PC in the next 12 months :D.
Both my country of birth and country of residence used the F-4 (which doesn’t exactly narrow it down, does it?) and it’s a pre-FBW plane, so I’m expecting it to feel like I’m flying the plane, like the F-1 at the moment.
Given that it’s gonna be a bit less likely to depart controlled flight, unlike the impressive VSN free F-4B/C which keeps this poor pretend pilot on his toes at all times (the E had a few changes like leading-edge slats to improve in this area, I believe) I’m expecting great things.
Also, as a bomb truck the F-4 was amazing, versatile like the F/A-18 (without throwing shade on the F-16 which is currently my favourite ‘modern’ plane) I expect it to be great value as well. If such a calculation makes sense for a collection of bits and pixels 😀

I’m sure this will be a popular choice for DCS simmers of all kinds. Fighter and fighter bomber flyers and those interested in the jet for a multitude of reasons. I think they were smart with an E model that dovetails into a wide variety of scenarios – but I’m also excited about a future naval variant.

      2. Of course! I forget that the E (specifically) isn’t a carrier based plane. Yes, I do hope they do one of the later naval versions. I didn’t really like the 4th gen planes in DCS at first, and I still prefer to ‘fly’ the 3rd gen but the F/A-18 with Supercarrier is a wonderful experience.

A naval variant is indeed on the way but we don’t know exact details yet except that it will be a different module release. Very exciting times for Phantom fans!

  2. I wonder how many people are going to buy this because it was so prevalent in our childhoods. I cant tell you how many movies I’ve watched with this aircraft in it. So many Books and by far the most was Documentary’s. I Kind of think this will be like slipping back into my childhood and being amazed at the shear power of them as they seem to brute force their way through the air when they landed and took off. Such an iconic aircraft. I’m very glad it’s Heatblur as their aircraft are works of art in my opinion, but I almost feel sorry for them as this is such an in demand aircraft that the critique of it on release will be brutal and more than likely unfair. But I think they will have plenty of time to polish it as my personal Guess as to it’s release. I Don’t think it will be here this year and then they have their month off so I think first quarter 2024. Hope I’m wrong but it’s just a guess.

It’s so good its bad. Or perhaps the other way around.

      1. First release is the E model and carrier-capable versions are going to be a later paid addition I believe?

Indeed. Heatblur have said that a future module will be a USN Phantom. I fully understand too that doing an earlier Naval variant is essentially a new product as well as there were big differences between the versions. I suspect the quality and overall value they end up offering will be worth the price when it arrives.

  3. If I’m not mistaken, a few cockpit pictures were released a few month back; see following link below…

    1. Wow. If those are actual images from the cockpit and not cleaned up photogrammetry images, this is gonna be the most real looking cockpit we have. Out of a range of very good work already available.

Those are actual in-game images to the best of my knowledge. Looks good!

Ahh you are right. I admit that I forgot all about those. This is the more first time we’ve seen through the forward windscreen rather than buried into the depths.

  4. A colleague of mine flew these “back in the day”. Flew the C, D, E and slatted E, and was an instructor on the E’s.
Maybe I can offer him an expensive bottle of wine to teach my to phly the phantom.

  5. I’m not a huge Cold War Era fan, but I think I will definitely be adding this to the collection. Kind of empty without a Vietnam theater for this, at least we have Sinai and Mig21!

So what Heatblur has done is pretty smart because we’re getting an F-4E and it comes equipped with some features that were starting to be introduced during Vietnam but came into full use later. It’ll have two targeting pods and the ability to drop laser guided bombs. That and the F-4Es long service life means that you have an airplane that can be operated alongside other more modern modules. It definitely won’t feel out of place.
