I don’t always write about IL-2 update hotfixes as they tend to feature more minute changes but this hotfix to the recently released big update that contained the IAR, WACO and others has some interesting features that are worth noting. Let’s have a look!

Hotfix features

Yesterday an IL-2 Great Battles hotfix went out to solve a few problems with the latest patch – update 5.201. Most of the changelog includes some minor notes on fixes to crashes and other issues in some smaller areas, however, a few notes caught my eye.

“All Flying Circus Vol.III aircraft have their own historical scenarios added” is one note which I take to mean that Flying Circus aircraft now have their own scripted single player missions to fly in addition to career and quick missions.

Another Flying Circus oriented update is with regards to the AI. “Reduced the cautiousness of AI WWI fighter pilots a bit (they will now be able to pull higher AoA closer to the stall limit);” Flying Circus AI have, for quite some time now, been very cautious flyers with the majority of their maneuvering being flying in wide and easy to predict circles. It seems to have gotten worse while the WWII AI has generally improved over the last several years. This may go some of the way towards redressing that problem – I’ll be looking forward to testing that in the coming weeks.

Career mode gets two new mission types. “Ground Forces Request” and “Forward Control Post” both sound interesting and likely close air support oriented. They’ve also adjusted the UI with a change that I’ve been hoping to see for a while. “Select All/Deselect All” button to the regiment filter by aircraft” Great!
