Friday’s DCS World Weekend News update was lighter on news than some weeks, not every week is going to have huge breaking news, but there were a few bits of new information surrounding the UI for the weapons screen in DCS. Plus a recap of some changes to DCS: Syria. Let’s have a look!

Weapons UI update

Eagle Dynamics are tweaking the weapons/arming screen for DCS World with some new features. The new interface will let you do things like control fuze settings, laser codes, cluster bomb settings, and more. The focus, they say, is on modern munitions including general purpose, sub-munitions and guided munitions. Laser code for Paveway bombs is specifically mentioned and so too is adjusting settings for cluster munitions with air burst heights, radio altimeters, and seeker and control system parameters.

Another long requested feature is the ability to adjust the bomb casing differences so you can chose between US Navy and USAF bombs.

The ‘hero image’ from the latest news update is low res but you can see the different bomb casing on the Hornet there. Something adjustable only in mods before.

All of these updates are long awaited with some adjustments being needed to be done in awkward kneeboard + hotkey arrangements previously. This will really benefit DCS pilots for sure.

Syria updates

The other thing that Eagle Dynamics drew attention to was the updated DCS: Syria map. The updates fall into two categories with the first being optimization. Ugra Media have optimized the map further adjusting the number of bushes, textures and simplifying certain damage models and even parked cars. The map also benefited from the last update’s enhanced ground vector data renderer.

The other category is extension of the map and its something I intend to explore soon. More areas of Israel and Jordan are in the new map including the following airports and airbases:

  • Amman
  • King Abdullah II
  • Prince Hassan
  • Muwaffaq Salti
  • Herzliya

Various fixes were also mentioned including an ILS update for Ramat David, adjustments to seat depth near the shore, tower frequency change at Wujah Al Hajar, and a runway extension and added parking at Ein Shemer, Megiddo and Ramat David.

Extensive updates to the DCS: Syria map that helps it retain its crown as one of if not the best modern era map available for DCS.
