MSFS Local Legend 18: Westland Scout & Wasp released

The release of Local Legend 18 has just happened with Microsoft taking the wraps off of the iniBuilds based project in the last couple of hours. This is the second helicopter partnership that Microsoft has released.

Scout and Wasp

Westland Scout and Wasp were two helicopters operated by the British Army Air Corps, British Royal Navy and several other countries around the world in the role of scout, surveillance, close air support and other utility duties. While the real world helicopter has been retired from active service in most countries, the helicopter lives on in Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Each come with three different liveries.

The helicopter is available now in the Marketplace for USD $14.99.

    “Both helicopters come with wheels and skids versions” might be wrong but I think skids =Scout, wheels=Wasp, there were no alternate gear versions for either.

    Did some recce’s in the Scout back in the 70’s… it was the first helicopter I’d ever been in!

      Oh cool! What was it like? It’s not the prettiest of helicopters but sometimes a workhorse like this one can be endearing.

    Well, at that time I had nothing to compare it to, but obviously to a young soldier it was like an exciting fairground ride, moving very fast (or appeared to be when flying nap of the earth)…

    Later on when carrying out similar recce’s when we were in Cyprus, I’d say it was comparable to the French Alouette that the UN was using at the time.

    Bearing in mind, I wasn’t a pilot, but a passenger, a young Corporal checking out the future patrol area I would be working in…

        Not half as fascinating when doing Northern Ireland training, flying in and out of firebreaks in the woods aboard a Lynx when an engine failed!!!

        Well mate, I’m still here, lol!… it was a rather fast bumpy landing in a field, coming down like a normal aircraft hard on the skids… me and my section were picked up by another Lynx within the hour and carried on the movement like nothing had happened!

    I got dumped in the jungle in Belize off one of these, RAF Sigs erk…with NO jungle course, had a great time with 5 Army Sigs guys each from a different unit on a pimple of an outpost. On the way down we found an old fashioned wild west steam engine and caboose, on a tresle bridge,(Look up Logging in Belize) Pilot fed up, he’d been looking for it for ages, and I just spotted it. Quite a few trips in these including in Rhodesia, but the blade was shakey on that one and they were trying to sort it…we brought it back by road. Hopefully they will upgrade the sound at some point, has part of a Chinook there as was trying to land….got down, but it wasn’t pretty. It just lacks the crackle of the Nimbus engine, otherwise BRILLIANT

    Great news. It needs a few updates.

    the tail light on top of the tail is not bright enough. And the engine does not closed down quick enough. The real Scout closes down very quickly when the throttle is closed.

    I’m having fun with the Wasp. It has a ton of suspension travel so you can set it down pretty hard landing on ships in bad weather. My favorite helo in MSFS is the Alouette, but this is right now in my number 2 spot.
