The Shooting Star is … the star of the latest Brief Room episode from 1CGS talking about their IL-2 Korea project. They talk about the F-80 but they also talk about their release timetable, early access, the Sea Fury, Meteor and more!

The F-80C is the focus of the latest Brief Room episode from 1CGS. They spend a bit of time talking about the F-80C and why they choose this aircraft from its lengthy experience in Korea (from the early days through to the end of the war) to its wide uses as both fighter and fighter-bomber.

We’ve also learned that they have been using the aircraft to test and tune a lot of their jet modeling though they reported that the model that they were using for the Me262 worked out quite well and ended up getting pretty close to the predicted values. Interesting stuff.

Some other details are packaged away in some of their Q&A. 1CGS are planning to release IL-2 Korea around the end of 2025 with work on the career mode and generating content needing the time to get to a launch position. They are thinking about an early access but don’t want to release it too early.

The Meteor and Sea Fury both a mention in the questions and they say it may be a good candidate for a Collector Planes. They are keen to add the Royal Air Force and other air forces to the mix. They say maybe a DLC with carrier operations is possible too. That all fits with my wishlist I published the other day!

They also talk a bit about the IL-28 which I left off my list and which they correctly point out was available but not used. But they also think its an interesting airplane and could be added.

Next time around they will be talking about the graphics engine, pilot, the simulated world, and programming as topics so if you have questions, be sure to submit it to them.

    “The end of 2025”. Oy vey!

    I have to admit, it’s a bit much with all these devs playing the publicity game with software that is often as not years away from release. A while back I posted a pic of a 3D CAD design nut and bolt, and said it was the first step of my full fidelity B1-B bomber for DCS, due Q4 2037. At this point I wouldn’t doubt for a second that a real dev would do that. 🙂

    In any case, the sim does look like fun.

      How detailed was the 3D CAD design of the nut and bolt? Do you have any washers? 😉

      It will be a lengthy wait. Maybe early access would come into effect by next summer? Who knows.

    Well, they did say they might do early access nearer to the release time, nevertheless, what I’ve seen so far looks pretty good… and kudos to them for speaking English, as it made it more natural and with subtitles, far easier to understand than the awful AI videos previously…

    I am really curious about your thoughts regarding the fact their community manager has been openly supporting the war and they are still employing him. To be honest I am quite surprised this and other communities are still supporting the game.

      That’s a good question and almost needless to say that it’s also a complex one. I assume you’re referring to the incidents that happened just a little under a year ago now yeah? https://stormbirds.blog/2023/09/28/il-2-x-twitter-post-causes-community-uproar/

      I said it then and I think I’m still correct in saying it now that the issues there have caused reverberations all around the community. We were never told explicitly who did it but I’m guessing that we’re all reading between the lines. It made a lot of folks unhappy about the situation – myself included. I’m not aware of any other incidents that came up but maybe you know more than I do on it.

      Yeah, and besides this: I like IL-2 but it’s from a Russian company. So money spent also goes to Russian taxes, which fund the war in Ukraine. Therefore, I will not buy anything from this company.

      I don’t really understand what you hope to achieve by boycotting the game? This person is an American who has no influence on Russian or American policy, other than having a vote, just like 300 million other Americans.

      And if you want to harm the Russian economy, then it doesn’t matter what any employee thinks, and you should also boycott DCS.

      The trend of only wanting to interact with sufficiently ideologically pure people is itself a totalitarian mindset, which in my opinion does not contribute to a better world.

        I agree. Should we also Boycott US films and anything else that comes from the US for every questionable war they’ve been involved in?

        self-righteousness and “with-us-or-against-us” mindset that achieves nothing.

        They are a Russian company, it is logical they would support their country. As an American company would also support its military?

    The F-80 must be a really cool aircraft to fly and fight in. I can’t wait for them to start showing off more planes too, including the iconic MiG-15 and F-86 Sabre. I think Korea will be a brilliant opportunity for many collector planes to be added that were around during the late 40s and early 50s. Maybe helicopter would be an option as well.

    I wish that they could do a Vietnam War module sometime in the future. I say it would be very profitable and would come along with lots of iconic base-pack aircraft and collector aircraft too. Carrier ops would be available as well. I’d love to be able to fly aircraft like the MiG-17, MiG-19, MiG-21, A-4 Skyhawk, F-4 Phantom, F-5 Freedom Fighter, F-8 Crusader, etc…

    I wonder if they will ever cover the Arab-Israeli Wars of the 1960s and 70s, the Falklands War of 1982 and Gulf Wars of 1990-91 and 2003, though I think that this would be going way too out of their niche of making WWI and WWII combat flight simulators. However I believe making a module covering much more recent wars would be profitable and would rival DCS more directly by bringing something else to the table that DCS does not for most of their planes. And that would be a simplified and non-clickable cockpit, which is great if you just want to go for a quick and easy dogfight.

    I say we’d see a lot more of WWII content before they even cover these more modern wars. I bet that once they are done with the Pacific they will go to the Mediterranean and cover Mainland Italy, Sicily and probably Tunisia. After that I’d say they’d want to revisit the Eastern Front where they’d cover the biggest and most important battles that occurred there before they do the Western Front again. They might even do a Tank Crew and WWI sub-series. Sorry I got a bit off topic.

    But, back to the F-80, I think that it’s coming along nicely, and I am very excited that IL-2 Korea is going to come out at the end of 2025.

      The complexity of planes quickly ramped up after Korea, with air-to-air missiles, real radar systems and such, so I think that Korea is a good upper limit.

    End of 2025 is a lot further out than I expected/hoped but then again I shouldn’t be surprised with any dates to be honest (and perhaps they are playing the cautious timeline which would be a good move).

    Good hear that they are considering carrier ops and I’m sure they already had a wish list/un-prioritised roadmap of potential aircraft to look at further down track. I do think they would have to be considering “whats next” after Korea and expand it out to include other theaters (albeit there wasn’t a lot in the 50’s – it was the 60’s when things started heating up)

      yes date is far out, i think talk about what after Korea is more to calm down ww2 fans, i dont think they gona do more late jets, they say plan is Pacific next DLC and if i understod them corectly add carriers to Korea while preparing for Pacific. So back to WW2.

        You’re probably right. I can see them filling out the Korean conflict but probably not extend into other Cold War era aircraft…. though we might all be wrong. It’d be an interesting direction.

    Bummer, I was hoping I’d be able to play this before the inevitable Civil War (2024 elections), societal collapse, and or nuclear war looming on the horizon.

      The civil war, end of democracy, etc always happens at the next election, so after 2024, you can play until 2028, and then until 2032, etc, etc.

    Suprised they tease Seafury, didnt expect British airplanes any time sone. Wished they spend more time on airplane modifications or sytems , but if they are this early in development maybe they didnt finalise all the things.
