We learned in June that Matt “Wags” Wagner, a Senior Producer with Eagle Dynamics, had been diagnosed with cancer. The outreach from the community was profound with financial and moral support exploding from every corner of the community. Its with profound sadness then that we’ve learned today that Matt Wagner has passed away after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
The saddest of news
The sad news that Matt Wagner had passed away on September 7 was announced today through the Eagle Dynamics official newsletter.
Matt has been with flight simming for decades dating back to the mid 1990s working with Strategic Simulations Inc (SSI) and then later becoming a Senior Producer at Eagle Dynamics in 2002.
Wags, as many of us know him, has been a pillar in the Lock-On and then DCS World communities. His calm demeanor, deep knowledge, and attention to detail served us not only as a producer but also as a tutorial creator. We learned about new features and how to use them in many of our DCS World modules thanks to his videos.
In a message presented today as part of the newsletter, we got a rare message from Eagle Dynamics co-founder Nick Grey.
We are devastated by his loss, yet amid the grief, we feel deeply privileged to have known him and to have shared in his journey by our side. Matt was a brave man; his legacy, his spirit, and his impact on our lives and our community will be remembered.
I will miss his soft voice, our daily calls, and his joy for what he did.

I too share in the shock of this loss. Although I unfortunately only had a brief chance to meet him back at the FSExpo in 2019, Matt has left an indelible mark on my own DCS World and overall flight simming journey.
He will be remembered by us all. I send my condolences to his family, friends and colleagues who I’m sure will feel the gulf left by this loss more than most.
