The folks at Blackbird Simulations have just recently hosted their “State of the Sim” update where they talk about all of the products that they have in the pipeline. There’s quite a collection of aircraft that they are aiming to bring to Microsoft Flight Simulator with a particular focus on the SR-71 Blackbird. Let’s have a look!
Up to date with the state of Blackbird Simulations
The 47-minute long State of the Sim video by Blackbird Simulations covers a lot of ground. Some of the highlights include some time spent talking about their recently released T-6A ADV. The aircraft was put together in collaboration with the USAF / NATO air training program and a version of the aircraft is used as a stepping stone for real world pilots. The update included word that some of the bugs with the aircraft are in the process of being sorted out thanks to hot fixes. Always good to hear.
They also mention that they’ve been quite busy producing a few aircraft for Microsoft and the MSFS 2024 release. That includes the Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane that we’ve seen in some trailers.
Another product that they are busy with is the C-130J (D-30 variant). This is going to be a product released for MSFS 2024 and it will come with detailed systems and cockpits with four variations on just the cockpit alone.
Also in the works is the UH-1H Huey which they say is quite detailed and will include weapons on the non-Marketplace version. They also jokingly but also seriously said that it will include a ‘Fortunate Son’ button. Nice!
World War II fans are going to be interested to know about their A6M Zero product which is also well underway. Apparently the version they are doing is an A6M5 although there are bits and pieces that may ultimately be from references they have for the A6M2.
That’s not all because they are also working on a DHC-3 Otter, a B-1B, and a F-16C Block 50/52.
Apparently they were working on a A-1 Skyraider but they have since sold it to another company.
I did mention the SR-71?
That was all of the non SR-71 stuff, but wait, there’s more! Blackbird have also released a new developer diary video going into some of the details on the cockpit and visual model of the SR-71. The video gives us a great overview of the exterior and interior with lots of attention paid to the up close details.
Looks like an impressive aircraft for MSFS. Have a look!
