The folks at Blackbird Simulations have just recently hosted their “State of the Sim” update where they talk about all of the products that they have in the pipeline. There’s quite a collection of aircraft that they are aiming to bring to Microsoft Flight Simulator with a particular focus on the SR-71 Blackbird. Let’s have a look!

Up to date with the state of Blackbird Simulations

The 47-minute long State of the Sim video by Blackbird Simulations covers a lot of ground. Some of the highlights include some time spent talking about their recently released T-6A ADV. The aircraft was put together in collaboration with the USAF / NATO air training program and a version of the aircraft is used as a stepping stone for real world pilots. The update included word that some of the bugs with the aircraft are in the process of being sorted out thanks to hot fixes. Always good to hear.

They also mention that they’ve been quite busy producing a few aircraft for Microsoft and the MSFS 2024 release. That includes the Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane that we’ve seen in some trailers.

Another product that they are busy with is the C-130J (D-30 variant). This is going to be a product released for MSFS 2024 and it will come with detailed systems and cockpits with four variations on just the cockpit alone.

Also in the works is the UH-1H Huey which they say is quite detailed and will include weapons on the non-Marketplace version. They also jokingly but also seriously said that it will include a ‘Fortunate Son’ button. Nice!

World War II fans are going to be interested to know about their A6M Zero product which is also well underway. Apparently the version they are doing is an A6M5 although there are bits and pieces that may ultimately be from references they have for the A6M2.

That’s not all because they are also working on a DHC-3 Otter, a B-1B, and a F-16C Block 50/52.

Apparently they were working on a A-1 Skyraider but they have since sold it to another company.

I did mention the SR-71?

That was all of the non SR-71 stuff, but wait, there’s more! Blackbird have also released a new developer diary video going into some of the details on the cockpit and visual model of the SR-71. The video gives us a great overview of the exterior and interior with lots of attention paid to the up close details.

Looks like an impressive aircraft for MSFS. Have a look!

  1. I got this image of a late night infomercial, the kind with jewelry on a little stand that rotates in front of the camera, but selling MSFS planes instead of rings and necklaces. And I’m now convinced that would be a great idea.

“This plane cost over $200 billion to develop, but with this special offer from Blackbird you can have it for only two easy payments of $9.99. Have your credit card ready. 1-800-BUY-MSFS.”

Substantially cheaper than the real one, that’s for sure! ☺️

  2. The BBS T-6A is absolutely sublime.

its a shame it’s priced at $45 because that will really hold back a lot of people from buying this “GA” addon (based on MS’ recent MSFS sales data).

but it’s worth every single penny 🙂

I’ve been flying AOA’s version in X-Plane for awhile and really enjoying it.

i also grabbed IRIS’ version at half off in the recent Marketplace sale (mainly because their version is the glass cockpit B/C variant). A good addon, but …

But since grabbing BBS’ version I’ve barely touched any of them. The Advanced (external) flight model is very well executed and they’ve tuned it tightly so that not only does it “feel” right, it hits all the published numbers (not surprising since it’s a training tool for IRL pilots).

If $45 is too much for your taste, then wait for a sale. Anyone who’s interested in high performance study level aircraft should own this.

It’s definitely another one of those aircraft on my list to have. And the Vulcan, BAe 146, the Dukes, H160, the list goes on…. 😅

SR-71 is such a special aircraft isn’t it! Definitely on my (far too long) list to keep an eye on!
