The folks at NaviGraph have done something really cool that has me shouting “finally!” SimBrief functionality has now been built into Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 for the first time with a new add-on released today.

Plan, brief, and fly all in the sim

This is cool! Needing to jump out to a website and setup your flight plan was sometimes useful but sometimes a bit of a pain as you swapped back and forth getting things ready. SimBrief is a useful tool but slightly intimidating if you’re trying to stay inside the sim environment. No more, as NaviGraph have made the tool available right inside the sim.

A new SimBrief button has been added to the sim’s world view enabling you to do all of your planning there. Then, once inside the sim you can still access SimBrief through a new quick access menu item that will let you reference all of the data. That’s a great new addition.

More, NaviGraph plan to add the same functionality into MSFS 2024’s new EFB tablet interface in the future. This should make it a little more competitive with the integrated interface that Asobo are building into the new sim. That should give us some good options for flight planning into the future. Glad to see it!

The software for MSFS is free to use and works with the free NaviGraph SimBrief. Learn more about the utility and download it here.

  1. It’s great to have this option although typically I would print off the release as it was done by all airlines in the past. However, many (but not all) airlines today have the release in an electronic form on a tablet.
