Hot off the presses with a new developer update from the Combat Pilot team. This time the update is showing us the latest work on the F4F-4 Wildcat and A6M2-21 Zero’s cockpits. Let’s have a look at the latest as the team wishes us well for 2025!

New cockpit images

Always love a work in progress image and we’ve got some new ones from the Combat Pilot team. The first batch gives us different angles on the F4F-4 Wildcat.

The A6M2-21 Zero also has seen some significant progress on its cockpit modeling. We see details all around with both pre-rendered and in-engine shots.

While the images lack texturing at this point, we can very clearly see the attention to detail in modeling and the texturing work will take this to the next level once the team has a chance to do that. We’ve already seen some impressive exterior textures on both aircraft so I can’t wait to see their artistry show up on the insides too. Textures, animations, and working instrumentation comes next according to the update.

A brief summary

While a lot of work is going on behind the scenes and plenty of it shared with us through the developer diary series, we do get a brief summary of what the team accomplished this year.

This was a big year for Combat Pilot with two major public reveals with the Experimental Prototype at FS Expo and Pre-Alpha Access for Patreon Subscribers. 2025 promises to be even better with the planned release of Carrier Qualification. We appreciate all your support and for following our progress!

If you’re at the Ace level of Patreon support, you can already access the pre-alpha version and check out both of these aircraft in action.

  1. When do you estimate Combat Pilot will be release? I say they have a long way to go but when it is ready this will be an amazing flight combat game. So maybe 2026?

    1. I think that really depends on how they release it. I expect them to release in early access without all features, but even then, it will be 2026 at the earliest, I think.

    2. Hard to say. A couple of years is likely but it may open up to people long before it’s “finished” and the process of moving to release will be gradual.

    3. its so far out, i even belive Jasons old team will be close to release of their pacific before we get full CP game out, they are up ugenst big teams and building it on new engine, who knows what kined of bumps they still have to cross, while Korea team looks like just reusing same game engine without any big changes, they can get full PTO DLC out in 2-3 years, CP on the other hand i dont see be full out as game in 3-4 years, game where i can DF and play historical Midway campaign or multiplayer or build single player missions with atleast 6 airplanes fully modeled.

      1. Agree the full CP release is going to be some time away for sure though I’m going to be a little more positive and say 2-3 years (we can can check back in each year and see how we are doing with our guesses).

So far their approach is a very transparent one which is good – couple that will incremental releases so things keep moving forward but let people have it would be a wise on. Albeit there’s a fine line to be played there – it needs to have enough content to keep people interested and playing whilst they expand the feature set.

      2. only thing that concerns me with their way is paying so long for game content, people who are gona give them that mutch money will be not easy to calm down when things dont go with game as how they planed to be

      3. It’s a difficult proposition and I think it’ll be a difficult task to pull off but I think Jason has the right idea that he has to do this as publicly as possible, get support where he can and then hopefully manage to deliver! It’s a bit of a gamble, nobody has done this in decades (start fresh and build a new combat flight sim) but so far I think it’s going well.
