Eagle Dynamics have put out their customary DCS World Weekend News update and this week we’ve got some interesting new details on the G.91, there’s the Lunar New Year Sale, and a summary of their latest patch release. Let’s have a look!

G.91 progressing

We’ve heard recently from IndiaFoxtEcho on their development work on their G.91 project. The late 1950s era fighter-bomber has been in development for a while now and was announced back in 2022 as the developer’s follow-on project after the MB.339. Four variants, the G.91A, R-1B, R-3, and R-4 represent a good selection of the variants built.

The status report says that the team focused on redesigning the cockpit to meet high model and detail standards and are working now on the external model to match.

A preview of the untextured exterior model shows off some of the different configurations. Note most of them fitted with four M3 .50cal machine guns while one of them sports the 30mm DEFA cannon.

Eagle Dynamics also reports that the aircraft’s weapons are implemented including the MCLOS (manually guided) AS-20 Nord.

Development is ongoing and I’m looking forward to further updates through the year.

Lunar New Year

The Lunar New Year sale is now on and will last until February 10. Most modules are available for 50% off with some like the F-16C, F/A-18 and JF-17 coming in at 40% off. The Tomcat and I-16 are 35% off while many campaigns and maps are 30% off.

Notably, and I know at least one or two readers will want to know about this, the MB-339 is for the first time on for 50% off. Maybe a little nod to the G.91 update. My review of the module is here.

The sale is currently on only for the DCS E-Shop.

Patch update

Eagle Dynamics have also summarized their latest update to the sim. There are quite a few fixes listed by the changelog with one of the more notable ones being a fix that restores the ability for George AI on the AH-64 and Petrovich AI on the Mi-24 to see ground targets when fog is set to auto.

The DCS: F-5E Remastered version also gets seven new liveries, corrections to the 3D model, corrected formation lights, and there’s now a new texture template which means that we should see lots of new user made liveries soon.

There’s also a laundry list of other fixes. Read the change log to see what’s changed here.

  1. I don’t think there is a Steam sale to go along with this. It says the next Steam sale is the Spring Sale in six-weeks.

  2. G.91 – now its not an aircraft that has a special place in my heart (or memory) but its the sort of aircraft I like to learn in DCS (old school jet style) so I’m looking forward to buying it (along with the F-100 & F-104)

  3. Unfortunately you aren’t going to see loads of user skins for the remastered F-5…

I’m not a skinner, but over on the forums many are complaining there is no way to make them because access is not possible due to the files being encrypted or something, because their content keeps getting stolen.

They would also require a new model viewer to make things viable as well… for the moment, new skins look like they won’t be happening, plus all the old F-5 skins we have are not compatible with the new version, so the only skins available are the few official new ones for the time being…

DCS however are looking into the problem to see what can be done.

Really! Interesting, I hadn’t heard about all of this. Is this something more specific to the F-5E Remaster or a broader issue?

To add… there may have been complaints because the template had not been released. Now it has. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/texture_templates/

  4. The template had arrived, yes, but nothing could be effectively done with it… and at the moment it only concerns the remastered F-5…

If you had the old F-5, once you installed the new one it then replaced the old one and you couldn’t use that lovely load of user F-5 skins you had, so you were just left with the handful of official skins.

However, someone worked out that if you ‘unticked’ the remastered F-5 in the Module Manager in game, you could then use the old version with all the skins you were using before…

    1. A somewhat silly question: I have the original F-5E but if I want to buy the remastered one I see an amount of $53.something. I thought that you got a discount if you already have the original F-5E?

The discount should show up before you do the checkout. If not, maybe support can help.

  7. I am looking forwards to IndiaFoxTecho announcing their next project. It must be in development already because they said that their next aircraft won’t be Italian or European though this might be some sort of riddle. Maybe the answer to the riddle is the Italo-Brazilian AMX International AMX, and I say this for a couple of reasons. Firstly, they seem to have an interest in Italian made aircraft and the AMX saw service in the Italian Air Force. Secondly, they may have been hinting that this aircraft will not be an all European plane as the AMX was co-developed by both Italy and Brazil. And last but not least, making ground attack aircraft seems to be their niche at the moment and the AMX International AMX is a ground attack aircraft. But what do you think about this?
