Another milestone has been surmounted as DCS World third party developer OctopusG announces that the DCS: La-7 has had its flight model approved by Eagle Dynamics.

Flight model and next steps

DCS: La-7 has been in the works for quite a while as developer OctopusG started teasing the project back in October 2020. Fast forward five years later and the aircraft is taking another step forward.

After thorough refinement, the flight model of the “Lavochka” has received approval from ED. The required content for the module’s early access release is currently in preparation.

The developer’s periodic short updates has kept us apprised of the project and a series of videos have been showing off the aircraft’s abilities as well as how to operate it.

We had a hydraulics video released about 8 months ago.

And another video showed off how to employ the aircraft in the attack role.

Go back further and a short video showing off a work in progress start-up was presented.

One step away

In December, the developer reported that they were just one step away from the finish line and it does appear that they have either crossed or are about to cross it.

We can call the past year a time of refining the DCS: La-7 module to meet ED’s strict standards, aiming to deliver an iconic virtual aircraft of the highest quality. And we can confidently say that we are just one step away from the finish line.

The remaining items are likely to be things like instant action missions, an icon for the ED GUI, wallpaper background, or other items. Those are speculation only but seem like something that you’d put together nearing the end of a project like this.

I’ve been known to be wrong but this does sound like release is going to be sooner than later though in DCS terms that may well mean a springtime launch or beyond. We’ll have to see how quickly these final todo items are completed.

Stay tuned for more from OctopusG.

  1. I go back and forth with my interest in WII fighters in DCS, but I always liked this plane and I’ll probably grab it. Now if only they’d make an FF Il2. Oh be still my thundering heart. 🙂

  2. I have so many jets and helo’s, but I find I’m just unable to put forth the effort to learn them. The older I get the more difficult it is for my brain to retain so much info. It becomes more like work than having fun. I’ve decided to stick with WWI and WWII (and IL-2 Korea). I’ll be grabbing the La-7 for sure.

I wish I could donate my jet and helo licenses. It would take away the sting.

Same issue for me. I wrote a “pilots-notes.docx”, basic handling and numbers for each plane that I spent time with. So coming back to the plane after years, it’s easy to get back into flying it.

As for the La-7, I just love well-simulated aerodynamics. It won’t become my new favorite plane, but knowing myself well enough, I’ll probably get it from day one 😉

  3. I think there’s a ton of value for any DCS warbird just in the sense of being a living museum piece, especially considering how great quality most of the warbirds are. Though I do wish they went for an airplane that was more cohesive with the others.

  4. I am looking forwards to OctopusG announcing their next project, whatever that will be, though I think most people like myself believe it will be the Su-17 or it’s export version, the Su-22. But I don’t think it will be ready until 2030.

  5. The flight model getting approved is great news. I have been waiting for the LA7 since it was first announced. A definite buy for me for sure. Hopefully it’s sooner rather than later.
