The long awaited World Update 19: Brazil, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana is out. This is an area of the world that many MSFS fans have been requesting with some regularity and Microsoft have been working to make it happen. Now it has and it just so happens to be the first released post launch of MSFS 2024 as well. It’s not coming alone either as we also have the release of the CAP-4 Paulistinha! Let’s have a look.

World Update heads to South America

This is our first South American based World Update and Microsoft have tackled quite a bit of it with half of the landmass of South America covered by upgraded data. The team reports that they brought together recent geospatial data, aerial photographs, satellite imagery, DEM (digital elevation model) data, and DTM (digital terrain model) to make it all happen.

This world update includes 75 new points of interest and seven airports given the usual custom treatment. Here are the airports:

  • Foz do Iguacu International Airport (SBFI)
  • Fernando de Noronha Airport (SBFN)
  • Santos Dumont (SBRJ)
  • Santarem-Maestro Wilson Fonseca International Airport (SBSN)
  • International Airport (SYKA/PKSA)
  • Suriname’s Zorg en Hoop Airport (SMZO)
  • French Guiana’s Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni Airport (SOOM)

Four cities have also been given the photogrammetry or TIN treatment:

  • Brasilia
  • Ouro Preto
  • Rio de Janeiro
  • Sao Paulo

There’s also three new Discovery Flights, three new Landing Challenges, and three Bush Trips (for MSFS 2020 owners). MSFS 2024 owners will see a new helicopter landing challenge, rally race, and a low altitude challenge.

A cinematic video has been released showcasing the new update:

Marketplace now available

The World Update also brings with it the launch of the MSFS 2024 marketplace. Many users are already reporting that the marketplace is available with quite a bit of content already on offer. We’ll have to see how well their testing with the feature has gone versus it now dealing with the steady traffic from users.

CAP-4 Paulistinha arrives

Created by Empresa Aeronáutica Ypiranga (EAY), a company started in Brazil in 1931, the CAP-4 is an unlicensed copy of the Taylor Cub that first flew in 1935. The airplane became locally popular in Brazil and neighbouring South American countries and was used as a military trainer and civilian utility airplane with 1,149 built.

The folks at iniBuilds developed the aircraft in partnership with Microsoft. It comes with six liveries:

  • N505
  • PP-HCP
  • PP-HIY
  • PP-HLJ
  • PP-TJR
  • PT-ZGA

The CAP-4 is part of the “make good” promise offered by Jorg Neuman, Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator and is being offered for free to all current owners of MSFS 2024. The airplane is also on offer to future owners for $14.99 USD in the marketplace.

  1. I’m still in no rush for FS2024. If/when a world update comes out with Canada looking real sweet, I’ll consider it. Until then I’m staying with 2020. But always happy to reap your updates. 🙂
