The latest update for DCS World, 2.9.15.9408, comes packed with fixes, updates, corrections and support for some new content releases. DCS: Cold War Germany has launched together with Red Flag 81-2, the DTC (or Data Transfer Cartridge) and more. Let’s check it all out.
Ugra Media’s Cold War Germany map launches
The headlining feature is probably the release of DCS: Cold War Germany. Developed by Ugra Media, this is phase 1 of a three part plan that delivers a large scale map covering 980×800 kilometres of 1980s Germany. The map seems well suited to the recent growth of interest in the Cold War era for the sim and its modules.
The large size of the map, 205 GB once all three phases are complete, might put off some. Still, I suspect that this one may end up being a popular choice.
Red Flag 81-2 by Reflected is here
Another Reflected campaign is out! Red Flag 81-2 is focused on recreating the real world 81-2 Red Flag scenario in the skies over Nevada. You’ll join the 336th Tactical Fighter Squad through 13 researched missions flying the DCS: F-4E Phantom II.
As with other Reflected Simulation campaigns, this campaign features real world procedures, thousands of custom voice overs, historically accurate skins, authentic kneeboard and briefing images, and more.
The campaign is available for $11.99 USD.
Data Transfer Catridge
The long awaited DTC has come to DCS World. Right now, the data transfer system will let you create custom countermeasure programs and communications presets for the DCS: F-16C and DCS: F/A-18C.
I can see this feature being extended and expanded to other modules over time.
Other updates
The latest update for DCS brings with it a bunch of other changes and updates. There are AI updates, fixes to 3D models, GUI changes, updates for the mission editor and scripting API, and there are a lengthy list of changes and updates for quite a few modules in the series.
DCS: Kola, for example, has four new airports, a new road based airstrip, and new populated areas. The F-4E Phantom has seen some updates with audio, system, avionics, and Jester AI fixes. Several other modules have seen slightly smaller updates as well.
