We’ve got news coming in from PMDG’s Robert S. Randazzo with a status report on various projects that the company is working on. Tomorrow, August 7, also marks the 28th year since the founding of the company and they are planning a little celebratory sale. Let’s have a look at the news.

Product updates across the board

Various news items coming in across multiple product lines. The most immediate is that PMDG’s 737NG line for MSFS 2020 are now moving over to their Operations Centre 3 software. The move is effective immediately and the recommendation for current owners is to uninstall existing 737 models and liveries, run the new OC3 software, and reinstall the aircraft and liveries. OC3 is a significant update over the aged OC2 software so its good to see the move.

The 777 series has recently seen an update to build 121 and another update is due next week with fixes and tweaks. The marketplace updates are taking longer but should arrive soon. So should the 777-200LR which is not yet in the Marketplace but is expected next week.

Interesting note in the update about the 777. PMDG is reportedly working on gaining access to the 777X with positive developments in that direction. That coincides well with new active flight testing which happened earlier this week with the first 777-9 considered to be in production configuration.

The 737NG for 2024 continue to progress and the next milestone is reportedly going to be a move to beta testing. That’s good news indeed! The DC-6, another legacy product making the jump to 2024, is reportedly awaiting a core update to the LOD system in MSFS. Once it does, they intend to roll it out to us.

The 737 MAX and 747 series are both progressing but there is no news to share. Robert once again mentioned that both 747-100 and -400 are in a race to see which might finish first.

Birthday celebration and sale

PMDG are marking their 28th year anniversary since the founding of the company. The message is one of thanks to the community for the support over the years.

The occasion is being marked with a rare sale. PMDG don’t tend to offer those often and Robert said as much, however, the occasion calls for a “founders week” sale and they are marking 28 years with 28% off all PMDG products. The sale will start on August 7 and conclude on August 10. Look for that on their webstore here.

  1. It seems that BlueBird Simulations will be PMDG’s main source of competition for the forseeable future since they are in the process of doing their own Boeing line up.

I tend to look at the airliner marketplace a little wider. PMDG are undoubtedly up against iFly, Fenix and iniBuilds in various ways and capacities. Some may argue that the 777 has greater fidelity than the A350 (and I’m guessing it might) but a lot of people are cross shopping them anyways. It’s the same with the Fenix A320, iFly 737 MAX and PMDG 737NG. Lots of folks are in the market for those.

Just Flight thankfully is filling in tremendously in the niche of “everything else” which is very cool. My Avro RJ review is nearly ready but I’m waiting on the 2024 native and freighter versions to arrive.

  2. Also, I wonder if they do the 777-9, will they do the 777-8 passenger variant before it is even built? There’s a chance the variant may even be cancelled in real life if the 777-9 is deemed good enough for ultra long haul routes. So it will be interesting to see what happens (PMDG wise as well as in real life).

PMDG has developed a habit of doing multiple models so its quite possible that the 777-9 would be joined by a 777-8. There are only 43 orders (vs 439) for the -9 so it may not be the priority.

  3. Well, I just picked up the 777-200LR. At $36, it is the cheapest and just like the 737-600 gives you the PMDG Boeing experience even if it doesn’t have all the options. I do kind of like the idea of having the Longest Range of all the variants.

Great value for the money absolutely. You get 98% of the same experience with just a little less flexibility if you’re doing real world routing. If not, you’ve got a full featured 777 and can fly it on some very long flights.

  4. I had been steadfastly holding out for the 2024 version of my 737-700 BBJ.

But for $40, I had a moment of weakness and bought the 777 Freighter.

Looks fantastic in Atlas Air colors, and tho I’ve only had about 30 mins in it, so far it seems like another great PMDG product!

So I already had bought the 777-300ER several months ago and had just started to dig into it recently. The sale immediately justified the 777F I was planning on purchasing at some point…

Future journal coming with a fun 777 flight I did. Really impressed with it so far. I was initially intimidated by the size but the 777 is actually quite a bit of fun.
