Some developers write lengthy status updates, others will talk in a video, and on occasion you’ll see something a little different. Octopus G, the developer of the DCS: I-16 and work in progress DCS: La-7, has done things a little differently with this latest update.
Testing in progress
DCS: La-7 has been in development for a few years now. The developer has released periodic updates on the aircraft’s status as time has gone on with some of them styled like period news reels. This latest one starts off as more of a cinematic experience… Spoilers ahead.
Revealed in big glowing letters at the end of the video, Octopus G have indicated that the aircraft is now in the hands of Eagle Dynamics for testing. This is often one of the last steps before a product goes to launch so it seems likely that DCS: La-7 is now finally approaching a release status.
The video, though its narrative, also helps show off the aircraft’s cold and dark start process, sound and visual effects, and even some of the ground physics (courtesy of a ground loop).
Brief discussion
We have in recent days talked in the comments section here about the aircraft’s relevance to the DCS WWII time frame. It, like the I-16, will struggle in historical arrangements though the La-7 at the very least comes with historical competitors in the DCS: Bf109K-4 and Fw190D-9. As of yet, no Eastern Front map, assets, or other modules are available beyond discussed.
DCS remains a sandbox sim with varying modules sometimes fitting together well in a thematic way and then other times… not. Nonetheless, it does look like a lot of care and attention has been put into the DCS: La-7 by third party developer Octopus G. Stay tuned for more details on its release.
