B-17G is the first in a series of products that MicroProse is planning to release and the project has just crossed a major milestone as it reaches its 1.0 release status. The project has been available in early access for several months now and is now considered fully released. Let’s have a look!

Fly the Fortress

The B-17G Flying Fortress needs little introduction as a legendary aircraft of World War II and MicroProse has sought to capture a piece of that experience in Microsoft Flight Simulator with their Heritage Valor Collection.

The aircraft boasts high fidelity flight model, 4K PBR textures, Wwise sounds, MSFS 2024 walkaround support, in-sim clipboard, six liveries, and smoke and vibration effects. The aircraft is also expected to pickup visible wear and tear effects, gain a maintenance system, crew management, multiplayer animation upgrades, and electrical system simulation post launch for no additional charge. No ETA has been given on those updates.

Just Flight is offering the aircraft through their storefront for $39.99 USD regular price with an introductory $32.99 USD early access price – which they report has been extended for a short period post release.

I had a first look at the project a few months ago and I’m keen to try it out again now that its reached a key milestone.

One response to “MicroProse’s B-17G for Microsoft Flight Simulator reaches 1.0 release”

  1. I’ve had this since it was available and it’s come along way. It’s fun to fly if you’re a fan of WWII heavies. In my short flight with this release seems very resource intensive in MSFS you can almost feel the FPS getting sucked out of the sim when previously it was very smooth. I was also hoping that they would address the ball turret, which is too much of a greenhouse and looks like a frame hanging below the aircraft. I hope they add an autopilot and the rest of the cockpit instruments such as the turbo controls and non-working gauges. I wouldn’t have called this a 1.0 version, probably a 0.8 beta really.
