The Lancair Legacy is the subject of A2A Simulations next aircraft project. The small kit-built aircraft offers an exciting high performance GA airplane to fly coupled with the developers well known Accu-Sim technology.

Get ready for the Legacy

Announced today and expected to release Q2 2026, A2A will be bringing the Legacy RG550 to Microsoft Flight Simulator. The simulation is based on a real world RG550 owned by A2A founder Scott Gentile which means that the developer will be able to get up close and personal with the aircraft as they have with prior projects.

The Accu-Sim 2.0 technology that underpins the aircraft means it will have its own custom physics, detailed engine model, bespoke sound design, persistent wear and tear system with an ownership modeling system, multiple avionics systems, a custom G5 simulation (also coming to the earlier aircraft in the A2A series), laser scanned modeling for the aircraft’s visuals.

Stay tuned for more information from A2A!

  1. Interesting to see that they use tape for the photogrammetry scan. I guess that it’s because the surfaces are mostly uniform and shiny or transparent. So they only scan most parts to get the shape and then add the material texture separately later.

    1. yep – it makes the curves of the plane really stand out for the modeler.
Any fuselage, but particularly a curvy one like this, has a lot of subtleties that are very difficult to discern from a 2D photo.

what I think is cool is that they appear to be using standard masking tape! Such a basic solution for such a high tech requirement 😁

  2. strangely enough, FlightSimWare also have one well along in development. and they’re gonna do 3-4 distinctly different variants (even a legit air racer!).

I know for sure I’ll be getting the A2A version, and if the FSW reviews well I’ll be happy to add it to the collection as well (I’ve been pretty happy with their LearJet so far).

    1. p.s.: this has instantly become one of my most anticipated addons. The IRL aircraft is very fast, somewhat sporty handling, and has an uninterrupted canopy view better than most every other civilian aircraft.

And to know that the legendary AccuSim is going to be powering this addon makes it utterly irresistible. 🤙

      1. I remember the Aerobask one fondly and I should probably get that one out again and have some fun with it. It’s a hot airplane for sure! Great performance.

    2. Tough choices (or maybe not :D) when great developers come out with similar or the same aircraft. 2026 is definitely going to be the year that I purchase and review an A2A product, I’ve not done so up until now purely based on time, but I’m getting there!

      1. oh, yeah!

the Comanche is very sedate. Excellent addon, just the aircraft itself is unremarkable (as a flight sim addon!).

The AeroStar is kinda the opposite – it’s a very fast twin, relatively unforgiving in handling and engine management (it overheats extremely easily!). Still a great addon, it’s just a bit of work to fly (in a good way 😎).

I think the Legacy will be somewhat of a Goldilocks addon for A2A: “just right…”

FWIW, you being a warbird lover and all, it’s practically worth the cost and hassle of getting the A2A warbirds for Prepar3D. 😮

The Civ Mustang is just outstanding! I also have the Spitfire Mk I, the T-6 Texan (my #2 favorite), the P-40 Warhawk and even the B-17.

All are very well done – I miss them dearly and really wish they’d already have arrived in MSFS, but it’s going to take quite awhile…
