Two videos have come out, one with commentary and one without, showing off the DCS: MiG-17’s flight model in action with some virtual airshow moves. Let’s have a look!

Airshow display for the MiG-17

Red Star Simulations look to be fine tuning their flight model process as the DCS: MiG-17 comes together. The airshow routine shows off the aircraft in various states of flight, with and without the afterburner, doing tight turns, and even an aileron roll on takeoff with gear still extended.

The caption for the video reads “Raw power. No computers. Just stick, rudder… and skill.”

The airshow moves are inspired by real world airshow performers: Bill Reesman, Randy Ball, and Will Ward. I’ve had the opportunity to see Randy Ball perform and the MiG-17 is definitely impressive.

The second video is similar to the first except its the complete show, without commentary, and with a splitscreen so you can see the cockpit, exterior, and TacView readouts.

The aircraft is going to be at FSWeekend, the flight sim show happening this weekend in Lelystad, Netherlands. If you’re at the show, you should get the opportunity to check out this aircraft and talk with the devs.

  1. Great news. So the “Fresco”, the missing link between Farmer and Fagot is finally coming to DCS. I hope we will get the version equipped with radar, too. Now it’s time for someone to take care of the Flogger, some more reliable than Ron Z.

    1. I don’t think it is that black and white. If the whole situation escalated to the point where it did, he RAZBAM team must have had a good case.

      1. Well, losing the Flogger was sad, but I can deal with it. But the perspective of removing Harrier, Mirage 2000 or F-15E, which I paid for, is almost unacceptable.

      2. I mean, it’s been hashed thousands of times by now.

Fundamentally, both sides let their egos get in the way and didn’t compromise to ensure the customers interests were prioritized.

that said, Ron has a well established reputation as a cowboy who doesn’t walk his talk.

Not saying he’s totally wrong, but he backed himself into a corner by making deals he literally had no right to make.

if he really wanted to “do the right thing”, he would’ve made a deal with ED, partially paid his team and himself, and would carry on selling perhaps the single most popular DCS addon ever.

So now, instead of making less money, he’s making NO money. And presumably his subcontracted devs are 100% unpaid as well.

      3. I’m not trying to hate on him, it’s kind of like what I say: arrogance is the first stage of downfall.

But one day I do hope that ED (or someone else) does their own Mirage 2000-5 and the F-15E to replace the modules lost to the game.

As far as I know, it has not been proven that this is true.

  2. Red Star has come such a long way with their MiG-17F. Hopefully this will be the year of the Fresco for DCS.

ANOTHER ‘machine’ that I’ll be irresistibly forced to get!! The MiG 15 is a solid fave of mine already!

This one seems like a quick transition over. The MiG-17 is really impressive at air shows so it should be a blast to fly!

  4. Demonstrating IRL airshow routines like this is really an excellent way to validate the flight/physics model. I’m sure it has been instructive for the devs, and will make this a great handling module!

As always, the more I see it, the more I like it!
