He’s back again with a new DCS World tutorial video focused this time on the Track While Scan (TWS) mode for the DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum. This mode has some interesting features and not everyone, even dedicated MiG-29 flyers, may know some of the intricacies on display. Let’s have a look!

Track and scan!

MiG-29 has quite a few features and learning all of them, like any DCS World module, is a process. Matt Wagner’s latest video goes over how TWS mode works and what it lets you do.

Its possible for the MiG-29 to track up to 10 targets at once with the ability to automatically slew the HUD cursor over the highest threat target and then hold that target. Even better, it can automatically lock once missiles are in range. I see some useful tactical options being unlocked that I, personally at least, didn’t know were possible with the jet. Have a watch!

  1. Without active homing radar missiles, TWS can only be used for improving situational awareness.

Yep it would definitely help with situational awareness while reducing the workload. But consider that TWS would still hopefully help keep at least one target painted well enough to quickly lock and then have it automatically lock once in parameters for the selected weapon (neat feature!). Also reduces the enemy’s understanding of your intentions in a multi target environment on their end too.

  2. I just love how everything is different in this aircraft!

excellent module, beautiful, flies well, and you’ve really got to wrap your head around the non-western systems and methodology.

It’ll never replace the Hornet for me, but it is PERFECT for anytime one needs a break from the “same old, same old”.

  3. On the topic of MiG aircraft, I think there is a growing need for the MiG-23. I know Su-25A is likely the next RedFor full fidelity aircraft, but after that, I think that Eagle Dynamics should really consider the MiG-23 as their second in line RedFor FF aircraft because they were a front line fighter amongst Soviet and Warsaw pact aircraft, as well as serving in various Arabian air forces. And since there is already the German 1980s map and the Syrian map expansion coming, I think that there will be strong demand for the MiG-23. I might be wrong though so sorry if I am. And sorry if I was too off topic.
