Microsoft Flight Simulator developer iniBuilds has just launched their classic TriStar Airliner for the sim. Boasting a large array of features, the tri-engined airliner from Lockheed is a unique entry in a marketplace full of A320 and 737 iterations. Let’s have a look at the release!

Iconic tri-engine release

We’ve got it pretty good in Microsoft Flight Simulator these days. We have lots of common airliners like the 737 and A320 family but we’re also developing quite the collection of unique entrants too. Here comes a new one with Lockheed’s classic late L-1011 TriStar airliner.

iniBuilds have packaged in the usual array of features with authentic engine simulation, detailed sounds, over 40 liveries from operators around the world, realistic simulated INS, GPS navigation options for more modern focused flyers, a fully interactive flight engineer station and optional virtual flight engineer, and a period inspired Paper Flight Bag (PFB in place of the usual EFB) with SimBrief and NaviGraph support.

The aircraft is arriving with a $49.99 USD price which is quite competitive given pricer releases with the A340, A350 and even the A300-600R(F).

The iniBuilds TriStar is available for MSFS 2024 only. Learn more about it here!

The TriStar’s arrival also now means that we have a trifecta (see what I did there!) of triple engine offerings with FSS’s 727 series and TFDi’s MD-11.

Scenery sale

In connection with the release, iniBuilds has also kicked off a airport scenery sale featuring airports that were frequently visited by the TriStar in its heyday. That includes various iniBuilds produced airports like Manchester, Heathrow, Dallas Fort Worth, Honolulu, Johannesburg, and others.

Some folks are complaining that it’s not “Study Level” enough, but TBH, the reviews (including by regular joes) seem to be rather good overall. 🙂

As always with airliners, I don’t really want another one, but the L1011 was such a tech pioneer that I might just add it to the hangar.

So glad iB and, as you note, TFDi and the others are bringing us these “old” airliners 🙂

Yeah I did see someone do a very detailed breakdown of how it differs from some documentation that they had. I tend, however, to be pragmatic about it and if it ends up being a good simulator experience, I’m probably not going to notice if a specific light is on at the wrong time.

I haven’t taken the plunge yet but I am tempted! I’ve been enjoying the A300-600 a whole lot recently after that recent update fixed the performance. I could add another classic airliner in the mix…
