I missed a Team Fusion Simulations status update in March which was bringing up some of the latest information on how that flight sim project is progressing. There’s another tidbit of news about VR, there’s work being done on a flyable Lancaster bomber, map improvements, and some reports on content being developed for the title. Let’s have a look

Content status check

Team Fusion Simulations are still working on IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover series. Though we haven’t heard too much groundbreaking on their next DLC in quite some time, it is still nice to know that things are still progressing generally.

One of those items is on the map. The team are working on a 1940 Channel map update which will then, seemingly, be connected with the 1942 Dieppe map with technology updates shared between the two. Here’s what they had to say specifically:

Our map team has been building the new 1940 Channel map for the past year, and recently they have identified all the Atlantic Wall bunkers and locations to be implemented. The map hasn’t been split into two versions up to this point (1940 Channel map and 1942 Dieppe map) in case we need to add last-minute environmental changes such as radar installations, fixing imperfections in cliff faces, etc. This avoids duplicating the effort, so we try to make sure they are identical before the final stage. 90% of the work has been to identify what needs to change, and updating/improving the Channel map.

Over in aircraft development, the team are tackling a big project in the form of the Avro Lancaster. This iconic WWII bomber doesn’t always show up in combat flight simulations so its inclusion should be a unique opportunity for the sim.

Some work in progress images of the cockpit show you the stage that the project is currently at. The update indicates that it will be part of the TF 6.5 DLC which is reportedly quite a ways away still.

Another content related update is on their Battle of Britain day-by-day project. This is a campaign project that seeks to map out the entirety of the Battle of Britain from July 4th to August 8th with RAF Fighter, Bomber, and Coastal Command versus Luftwaffe fighters and bombers with every sortie accessible by the player. It uses extensive reporting from both sides of the conflict, weather reports, and news reports to build a complete historical picture that you can then play through.

VR update as well

Every time I write an update about Team Fusion’s efforts, someone will invariably ask if the sim finally has added VR. They have, but it reportedly isn’t without its crash bugs right now. Here’s more of what they had to say about that:

Our lead programmer has also released a new Beta version for testers. We have stripped down the maps piece by piece to identify the VR crash to desktop bugs. The solution is proving elusive but we persevere and the team is confident that it will be found sooner rather than later.

Hopefully they can narrow this persistent bug down and release a VR-playable version soon.
