We’ve got a few recent updates from Red Star Simulations coming in. The first is an overview of what the team is currently working on right now while a second and third are a showcase of the radio systems and NDB approach system for the MiG-17F using their recently developed ARK-5 ADF.

The latest work on the Red Star Simulations DCS: MiG-17 appears to be all across the systems of the aircraft. They say that they’ve been busy implementing core systems, overhauling engine simulation with realistic flamout, surges, engine damage, and restart logic, while adding radio navigation functionality (more on that in a bit).
They’ve also been hard at work verifying the flight model:
One of the highlights has been validating our flight model against a real MiG-17. We’d like to thank our friend Mike Terfehr (@mterfehr) of FighterJets Inc., who used time during his flights to record data and videos for us. This allowed us to compare our simulated aircraft directly with a real MiG-17 at altitudes up to 27,000 feet. The results have been incredibly encouraging and our performance numbers matched the real aircraft not just closely, but two were virtually the same. We’re hoping to share side-by-side comparison videos soon.
They are currently cleaning up and optimizing code, working on the damage model, and gun radar.
Apparently they plan to submit the aircraft to Eagle Dynamics in the “very near future.” That certainly sounds like we’re starting to approach that point where you can start to get excited about this one. Still, the verification process can be lengthy so don’t start holding your breath right this moment.
Meanwhile, we have two new videos from the team showing off radio communication and navigation in general for the first video.
