DCS updates us on Operation Wags, new F-16C DTC colour options and three new REDFOR aircraft

Catching up on Friday and weekend DCS World news with the latest updates coming in. DCS: F-16C has a new DTC based feature that allows for colour displays and information that should help the jet be even more effective. Meanwhile, Operation Wags has been a busy one over the weekend.

DCS: F-16C is one of the next modules to get some attention. A new MFD colour setting feature will allow for 40 different symbology elements with 8 different colour options. The description from Eagle Dynamics indicates that the coloured areas can be loaded in from the DTC and that the system can be used for everything from kill boxes to airspace boundaries and battlefield frontlines. Interesting.

Three REDFOR aircraft have been signed off on

Get speculating because three REDFOR aircraft have reportedly been signed off on by the Eagle Dynamics team. This according to Matt Wagner who is apparently doing a bit of work right now.

This was mentioned in the comments of the High Alpha Hooligans stream with Matt Wagner saying the following:

Over the past two weeks, we signed three redfor aircraft that I think many players we be very excited about. Look forward to their announcements.

Aside from the confirmation, we don’t fully know what the plans are going to be. An easy to speculate option would be that we’ll be seeing the Su-25A Frogfoot come in as a full fidelity module. It’s already been something that Eagle Dynamics COO Kate Perederko mentioned previously and it is an aircraft that is currently undergoing a significant update for its Flaming Cliffs variant.

The other two are much more speculative. A Su-27 Flanker may, thanks to the passage of time, finally be an option though it may be a cut down export model of some kind. It’s also would be a nod to Flanker 1.0 and 2.0 that helped start the series off.

As for a third option… your guess is as good as mine!

    Maybe the An-12 Soviet/Russian transport plane as RedFor team’s military transport plane answer to the BlueFor team’s C-130J. It’s fun to speculate!

    I’m wondering if we might get something like a SU-7 or that family, would be a really interesting one, not sure what the business case would be for it though

      A Su-7 would be a handy addition to recreating the Arab-Israeli wars of the 1960s and 1970s. Despite it’s short range, I think I’d enjoy flying it as it was a short range strike aircraft and fighter-bomber.

        Maybe it will be a future module sometime in the 2030s. The more time passes, the less classified things usually get like aircraft and weapons systems, and avionics as we all know.

    Mig-29K or the carrier SU-25 would be neat, but something like the An-2 would be a little different but easily accessible since they’re flying all over the world in civilian service still.

      That is true. I would like to see some more transport aircraft other than the C-130J, as it would balance things out. The introduction of the C-130J showed that large FF aircraft in DCS is feasible to do.

    Speculation IS fun! I would guess/hope for a SU-24 (I think it got mentioned as a part of the abandoned FC4 package and a player in recent conflicts) or a resurrection of the Razbam MiG-23. A Redfor transport would be cool too.

    I don’t think they would do another Red helo (with the KA50, MI24, and MI8) but a MI-28 Havoc would be cool (though probably classified) and a KA-52 would be more relevant to modern aviation and likely easier to code with their KA-50 work, than a ground-up helicopter (as well as more multicrew fun.) I also believe the KA-52 was exported to some countries, I know Egypt off the top of my head, so it could also be at home in some desert maps.

    Speculation is all I have right now, but I’m looking forward to the announcement!

    Also excited for the F-16 update, it should be fun to play with.

      Sadly I don’t think a Ka-52 is in the cards any time soon but maybe an Su-24 has potential! It is fun to speculate.

    When do you think they will announce these aircraft? I think it could be at the end of the DCS: 2027 and Beyond video, or they would space the announcements out so rather than all at once. Just a theory though…

    We’ve had substantial rumors of a Sukhoi Su-17/-22 Fitter for awhile. Pretty sure it was never formally announced.

    I’d really dig it if the Mig-25 comes to the sim. Not too “practical”, but great for the Cold War scene.

    I personally would love it if the Su-25T got an overhaul, in addition to the A. Tho I’m fairly sure that’s NOT one of the 3.

    I also note that Wags says “RedFor”, which opens up the door for more Chinese fighters (even tho they’re mostly USSR knockoffs).

    perhaps some team has picked up the MiG-23 mantle, if Razbam has truly departed? It is one of the most widely exported airframes ever…

    there’s also a chance that documentation from many of the Su-27’s exported around the world was obtained. Even if it’s a less capable S-27, I’d still be just as happy to have it as our Mid-1980’s MiG-29!

      Yeah a Su-17/22, MiG-23 and Su-27 early model/export model all seem like good possibilities!

      It’ll take years for this to all pan out. But it’s still exciting.
