Microsoft celebrates 6th anniversary of Microsoft Flight Simulator’s 2020 release with franchise sale

If you can believe it, we’re already at the 6th anniversary of the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator! Microsoft is celebrating the occasion with sale pricing on three MSFS related titles as well as by releasing new bundle packs of Local Legends and Famous Flyers. Plus, the soundtrack is freely available for a limited time. Let’s have a look!

A franchise-wise sale is underway for Microsoft Flight Simulator with discount offers on both MSFS 2020 and 2024 releases. From now until September 1st, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is 30% off while Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is available for 65% off on all versions. Classic FSX is even getting in on the deal with an 80% discount. The discounts are available on Windows Store, Xbox and on Steam.

For this week you can get the Microsoft Flight Simulator Soundtrack: Themes Reimagined soundtrack. Its newly released and you can download and enjoy 86 minutes of music compiled from various releases. If you get it now, its free, if you wait, you’ll pay $9.99 USD for it.

Also on offer are new Local Legends and Famous Flyers packs. Each one contains 10 aircraft and are priced at $39.99 USD on Steam, Windows and Xbox stores. If you’ve been collecting planes before, these packs may have stuff you already own. On the other hand, if you’re new to the series its an easy way to pick up a bunch of aircraft.

    Still no discount on the Aviator (or any other) upgrade from a different version.

    I bought Premium Deluxe originally because it was the only version available as a physical copy I could display on my shelf (I didn’t want to spring for the Uber-collector’s-edition). I was going to upgrade to the Aviator Edition after purchase, but then they made the upgrade cost more than the difference between the two versions.

    I decided to hold off because 1) most of the planes in the Aviator Edition were broken in 2024, and 2) certainly it would go on sale someday. But so far every time the sim has gone on sale, the upgrade has stayed the same price.

    At least they are fixing the planes. At the end of the day I guess I’d rather they worked even if I have to pay more than I think I should have.
