It’s been several years of development by X-Plane aircraft developer Aerobask but it looks like the long road is nearly at an end with news from the developer that the Falcon 8X project is nearing release. We’ve got new details and screenshots so let’s dig in!

Falcon ready to fly

The Dassault Falcon business jets are iconic aircraft and X-Plane aircraft developer Aerobask set out to create a simulation of the Falcon 8X several years ago. Some of my earliest reporting comes from 2019 and since that time quite a lot has happened. Aerobask themselves have released several other aircraft including their excellent Phenom 300 simulation. Now it looks like the aircraft is finally set to arrive.

In a post earlier this week, Lionel from Aerobask indicated that the Falcon 8X is just weeks away while talking about the SkunkCrafts P-51D.

I’ll have to have a look after the release of the Falcon (a few weeks from now) and only if I can do it by myself (no obj modification) since I have no news from Khamsin.

Lionel

It took a few days after that before community members noticed, however, since then we’ve seen a multi-page discussion thread blow up in excitement.

Lionel for his part has confirmed that the aircraft has quite a few custom features. That includes custom FMS, custom fly-by-wire system, custom autopilot, somewhere between 8 or 10 liveries, NEXRAD support, weather radar implementation, support for Atlantic routing, obstacles on the moving map, custom TAWS and EGPWS, PDU and HUD. It will also have a version of Dassault’s “Falcon Eye” providing augmented reality rendering for night operations though it sounds like there are some X-Plane 12 engine limitations.

We still don’t have an exact date nor pricing on the module. Speculation has been running wild with everything from $40-100 USD pricing listed by community members. What it actually ends up being we’ll have to see.

Update: A video has been posted showing Falconeye in action.

One response to “Aerobask confirms Falcon 8X for X-Plane 12 now “weeks” away”

  1. if it’s reasonably priced like their other addons, I’ll probably get it just to show support!

I’m sure it’ll be great with all the work that’s gone into it, but yet another complex, proprietary airliner-style cockpit just isn’t my cuppa tea any more.

I.e., the Phenom is what I fly when I want to go somewhere fast. Cockpit is clean and simple, and the Garmin glass is standard across so many addons and simulators (heck, I even have the Phenom with Garmin in Prepar3D! 😎).👍
