A new Sim Update has just arrived for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and its aimed at some key issues that the sim has been experiencing over the last several weeks following the launch of Sim Update 7. Let’s have a look!

Key issues fixed

The change log for Sim Update 7 is relatively short fixing a UI issue for the in-flight camera menu, solving a Bleed Air Starter problem (737 and F-18) being unable to start, fixing an SDK crash, and solving a loading of BMP files on PlayStation 5 problem. But the big changes are listed as follows:

  • Reverted a change to drag simulation calculations to the pre-SU7 version to ensure backwards compatibility with certain third-party add-on aircraft.
  • Fixed an issue where helicopters can experience excessive RPM and unexpected lift when the Turbulence setting in Assistances was set to Realistic.

Third party developers were first to notice that aircraft were having less drag than expected in Sim Update 7 and it was later confirmed that the problem existed across all aircraft. This update should hopefully, and finally, solve the drag related issue. It wasn’t catastrophic, however, it did make it difficult to slow down in some aircraft.

Another issue had also cropped up at the same time making it difficult to fly helicopters. “Excessive RPM and unexpected lift,” as the patch notes describe it, made landing very difficult in some helicopters.

The update is in place now fortunately! You can read the notes here.
