Major milestone for the IL-2 series to release soon

A new 1CGS developer update arrived earlier than expected with 1CGS’ Han dropping us new screenshots and more details on the forthcoming 2.012 patch. Excitement is building and you don’t want to miss this one.

This is big

Patch 2.012 is a big release for the series introducing not only the Kuban map but also the ships, buildings, and other scenery and objects that make this map something that is living and breathing. It’s unclear if we’ll be getting all of the vehicles that help support this map at once or if more are on the way but needless to say that the Kuban scenario arrives in a big way.

The big surprise is that the Hs129B-2, originally slated for release in November, is even further along than we previously knew. It’s slated to go out with Patch 2.012 as well!

We’re getting a significant Collector Plane aircraft and a key piece of content for IL-2: Battle of Kuban in one patch. Had you forgotten about the biggest update to the flight model for the IL-2 series since IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad had its official release? That’s coming too.

Flying above the Black Sea, this Hs129B-2 is firing its 30mm armor piercing cannon.

There’s more

The full list of content expected for 2.012:

  • German twin-engined attack aircraft Hs 129 B-2;
  • Kuban map;
  • New technology of shadows with extended range, clarity and detail in the cabin and flexible settings;
  • The updated flight model of all the aircraft of the IL-2 project, the planes will be more stable in the airflow, more properly respond to glide and a huge number of other changes in the flight physics;
  • Improved morning / evening mist visualization;
  • Improved visualization of armored glass on all aircraft of the project;
  • Updated set of official aircraft colors Bf 109 F-4 and Ju 87 D-3.

We knew about the shadows but not about the update to how armored glass looks in the sim. Presumably we can see that updated work at play with this image of the Hs129B-2s cockpit. Apparently it goes beyond that affecting aircraft like the IL-2 with its armored glass up front and the Yak-1B Series 127 with its rear facing armored glass. Presumably the Bf109 and Bf110 are also going to see this update affect their armored glass where applicable.

I’m also always a sucker for improved atmospheric effects and the IL-2 series has continued to evolve those effects over time adding low level fog for Battle of Moscow along with improved sun effects when low on the horizon.

Of course we’re also still looking forward to some excellent skins by III/JG2_Gustav05 and I./ZG1_Panzerbar too! They may be a smaller piece of this large update but their inclusion continues to add to the overall content available for the series.

Release is imminent

We don’t have a definitive launch for this patch but it sounds like we’re rapidly closing in on it. The soonest we will see it is likely sometime mid-next week but its also possible that we’ll be looking more at the first week in September. Understandable given the size and breadth of the update and the time required to find and fix bugs.

A major update is due very soon for this series and its going to have a big impact on the series. Read 1CGS’s Developer Diary Number 168 right here for more screenshots and details from Han!
