Sometimes multiplayer gameplay just comes together beautifully and this past weekend that happened for me. Flying on the Wings of Liberty server, I spontaneously teamed up with another player and we ended up flying several strike missions in the Bf110. It’s some of the most fun I’ve had in a long time and it all happened in a nearly spontaneous way. So much fun that I wisely recorded my session and I’ve now cut it into a cinematic video.

Fun yet not always successful missions

Sometimes multiplayer missions can have all of the intensity and drama without anything actually happening or they can be action packed. Sometimes you get into a fun situation but you never actually succeed fully in your mission.

This cinematic is very much the tale of three different sorties where I was flying with fellow Bf110 pilot -=PHX=-Geo. Our missions become more successful as time went on and the third and final mission was a nearly complete success despite enemy opposition.

You’ll probably note in the first strike I forgot to drop my bombs. I had my trigger set for air-to-air mode and had neglected to even drop the bombs. I was swinging around for another pass when I was shot down. On my second mission my bombs struck their mark but I was again shot down in the face of heavy enemy opposition. On the third mission we succeeded in killing ground targets and we even escaped to land.

You’ll see all of that play out in the cinematic. Enjoy!

  2. […] That said, if you want to fly solo in IL-2 multiplayer you definitely still can. Years ago I did a trailer called “The Destroyer” where I flew some spontaneous teamwork with another Bf110 pilot. It was fun, it was enjoyable, and it all happened because I decided to follow another Bf110 after takeoff. You can read about and watch the trailer right here. […]
