This morning the Eagle Dynamics team released an official teaser trailer for Strait of Hormuz. This follows up on a teaser trailer released for the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet also coming out this week. Clearly things are moving along for DCS world these days.
Modern focused map
This very much a modern focused map as opposed to the Normandy map previously released. It’s also a map that is firmly inside the new DCS World 2.x engine and the visuals show. Large cities, beautiful and a far reaching horizon, with shadows and shading at an impressive level of beauty and detail. Really blown away by how real it looks at times.
Here’s the official description:
The DCS: Strait of Hormuz map is the strategic choke point between the oil-rich Persian Gulf and the rest of the world. Flanked by Iran to the North and western-supported UAE and Oman to the south, this has been one of the world’s most potentially dangerous flash points for decades. The region also includes the vast Arabian Sea that is well-suited to combat aircraft carrier operations. Be it from land bases in Iran, UAE and Oman, or from the deck of an aircraft carrier, the DCS: Strait of Hormuz map will offer a wide array combat mission scenarios to prove your metal. Key Features of the DCS: Strait of Hormuz Map:
• 90,000 sq miles highly detailed map area that centers on the Strait of Hormuz.
• As part of DCS World 2.5, it will support highly detailed terrain, textures, and buildings.
• Numerous, accurately rendered airbases in Iran, the UAE and Oman.
• Detailed cities such as Dubai and Bandar Abbas with unique buildings.
• “Strong Hold” islands such as Abu Musa and Greater Tunb.
• Iran, the UAE and Oman will be added to the list of DCS World nations.
This map is also clearly a scenario that can be used with the forthcoming naval aircraft in addition to land based aircraft we already have plenty of. The DCS: F/A-18 from Eagle Dynamics themselves sure but also with RAZBAM’s AV-8B NA Harrier module and with Heatblur’s F-14A/B module. Eagle Dynamics has also put a lot of effort into the Su-33 and its new professional flight model recently.
The big question: When?
There are no ETA’s for any of these pieces of content right now including the Strait of Hormuz map. It does look like its closer to release than ever before and it may even go into early access soon but when soon is continues to be a mystery.
Anyways, watch the teaser and enjoy!
