Eagle Dynamics is keeping the content fresh with continued coverage of their development work on the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet. They have also been showing off various liveries and schemes from different Hornet units – so far all in the US Navy.

Featuring different schemes

Having a series of different schemes for the Hornet at launch will certainly help with the aircraft feeling polished (along with the systems and flight modeling).

Making sure that not every Hornet out of the hangar or in every screenshot bears the same scheme will certainly help make the aircraft feel a little more real. We’ve got some cool schemes coming our way to help us feel that.

More are on the Eagle Dynamics Facebook page. I’d expect even more to show up as they continue to talk about the Hornet and all of its features.

Speaking of which…

Systems online

Each time we hear more systems have been finished for the Hornet. This week its most of the Hornet’s navigation systems, the fuel dump system, air-to-air refueling, carrier and dry land preferences (i.e. anti-skid systems), and more.

There are also some stuff that the team is still working on according to DCS World Weekend News:

The big items to still implement though include STT/ACM radar modes for air-to-air radar, AUTO, CCIP, and MAN modes for unguided bombs, and the moving map display option. Once these are completed, we will move the Hornet into full testing.

Full testing sounds appealing as it means that we’re turning a corner towards early access on the F/A-18 and the hype machine can get into full swing.

DCS World moving out of beta soon

DCS Hornet Live Stream Dec 31 (1)

I’ve been holding off on DCS World 2.5 as I already have the 2.x Alpha for the Nevada map as well as World 1.5 installed on my systems taking up a lot of room. I’ve been waiting for this to move out of beta – something that was seemingly just around the corner.

Now, maybe it is finally coming and sooner than later. Beta 4 released this week fixing a number of issues (hopefully) including improving loading times and solving some dreaded memory leak issues. According to Eagle Dynamics, these bugs are critical enough that they will hold off on DCS World 2.5 moving out of the Open Beta until solved.

All of this and more on the DCS World Weekend News.

  1. Dude shamrock, get rid of the 2.0 alpha (by updating it) as 2.5beta supercedes it in every aspect. You need to get in on the goodness m8! No use in waiting imo.

      +1 to Schurem.

I got rid of both the 1.5 and 2.0 as soon as 2.5 came out and never looked back since.

  2. upgrade your 1.5 to 2.5b and it will automagically salvage, then delete 2.0a

So here’s the one thing I don’t know about that process. When the public non beta release comes out, how do I shift my install over to that. Separate install or can I convert it?
